Insecurity: South East Governors Meet In Imo
- The meeting is coming on the heels of daring and devastating attacks on police headquarters and a prison in Owerri by unknown assailants, during which over 1,000 inmates escaped from the correctional facility.
As part of efforts to find a solution to the troubling security situation in the region, governors of the south-east will meet on Sunday in Imo state.
Amaka Okafor, aide to Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state, confirmed the meeting on Sunday.
She disclosed that the governors have started arriving at Owerri, the state capital, adding that the meeting will centre around expected issues of insecurity and how security can be improved in the region.
Also expected at the meeting are the Brigade Commanders, Navy, Air Force Commanders, Inspector General of Police, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other stakeholders.
There has been inexorable rise in violent attacks and criminal activities in the region for weeks on end.
The region has witnessed a spike in attacks on public infrastructure and institutions, especially security agencies formations.
Two police stations and a federal prison were razed and attacked last week, sparking tension and fear of emergence of insurgency in the beleaguered region.
