Lagos Moves To Demolish Dilapidated 3-Storey Building In Oshodi
- The Lagos State government has announced that it would demolish a three-story building in the Oshodi area of the state at No. 2 Brown Street, off Bolade Bus-Stop.
The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) released multiple quit notices and a seven-day evacuation ultimatum to traders and residents of the troubled three-story building.
Mr Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, released a statement on Sunday in Lagos containing the note.
The General Manager, Mr Gbolahan Oki, was quoted in the statement as saying that the seven-day notice was needed after a scientific and Structural Integrity/Stability Test (SIT) conducted by LASBCA experts and its sister agency, the Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory, revealed that the building “is extremely dilapidated and a disaster waiting to happen.”

Mr Oki said that the structure needed to be removed in order to avoid deaths and in line with the government’s goal of zero tolerance for building collapse for the safety of Lagos citizens.
The building will be demolished in order to save lives, according to the general manager, who also advised residents to leave by April 15.
“The government will not stand by and watch a distressed system of that size fall on her citizens without acting,” he said.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while also urging people to work together in reporting distressed buildings to prevent collapses.
