Lai Mohammed Reacts To The Question Of When Buhari Would Return From UK
- The President travelled out for what his aide described as a routine medical check-up
- According to the statement which was released to the public, the President was expected to be back in the country in two weeks.
President Muhammadu Buhari left Abuja on Tuesday March 30th after meeting with the Security Chiefs over the insecurity challenges in the country. This week will make it two weeks since he left, and reports had said that he will return after two weeks.
In a statement which was released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, he had stated categorically that the President will return on the second week of April, which implies that the President is due to return from his medical tourism to the United Kingdom.
After Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, was asked the exact date Nigerians should expect the President this week, and the reply was quite interesting.
In his reply to the question which was asked by the State House reporters, Lai Mohammed said that today is Wednesday, and that this week finishes on Saturday.
He said that the country is more concerned with dealing with the insecurity challenges currently rocking the country, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
The Minister of Information, trapped in a difficult situation, tactfully ducked the question.
The President’s medical trip had attracted criticisms from members of the public, with many questioning why the President was travelling at the time the country is rocked by insecurity challenges. And then, the President’s trip also came at the time resident doctors were deliberating on embarking on a nationwide strike.
To express their displeasure with the President’s trip, some Nigerians in the UK had gone to Abuja House, where the President was reported to be staying in London, to protest over the President’s medical trip.
The convener of the protest which was tagged #HarassBuhariOutofLondon, Reno Omokri, had said that the purpose of the protest was to harass President Buhari back to Nigeria to go and fix Nigeria’s healthcare system.
