Messi Breaks Ryan Giggs’ Record After Copa Del Rey Win
Lionel Messi helped his side to their first trophy of the season and the first under Dutch coach, Ronald Koeman, scoring the last two goals in a 4-0 rout of Athletic Bilbao.
After collecting the trophy, the Barcelona Forward breaks a longstanding record set by former Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs.
Regarded as arguably the best player of his generation, Lionel Messi is defying all odds to turn Barcelona’s season, which looks shattered before it starts into a memorable one.
Despite losing last week to Real Madrid in the El classico, Messi and Barcelona could still end the season with a domestic double, should they wrestle their way to claim the La Liga title.
In what could be his last appearance in a major final for the club, Messi was instrumental again, as Barcelona recorded an outstanding victory to win their first trophy of the season in style.
Despite dominating from the start, Barcelona were unable to find the back of the net in the first half, but broke the deadlock on 60th minute, through France forward, Antoine Griezmann, moments later, the impressive Frenkie De Jong, doubled Barca’s lead, before Lionel Messi sealed the victory with a quick fire double.
By winning the trophy, Lionel Messi has now won a total of 35 trophies in his career, by so doing he has surpassed Ryan Giggs record of most titles won for a single club, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
