There are strong indications that the Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the state capital, has shifted the date to deliver judgement on the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Eyitayo Jegede, challenging the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the October 20 governorship poll.
Sources revealed to EKO HOT BLOG that the Election Tribunal has shifted the date from Friday, April 23, 2021, to Tuesday, April 20 (today).
The Tribunal had last Friday fixed April 23 for judgement on the governorship election in the state.
After the declaration of Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election, Jegede approached the Tribunal, seeking nullification of the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Jegede alleged that the poll was marred by irregularities.
The PDP candidate also asked the court to nullify the nomination of Akeredolu and his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on the ground that they were not duly nominated by their party.
The defence counsels of the APC and that of the governor had pleaded with the court to dismiss the PDP’s petition on several grounds.
