There are curse myriads of festivals celebrated all over the globe annually, but who would have thought that people would risk their lives all in the name of celebrating the festival?.
There are records of wild celebrations and scenarios whereby participants went overboard, but nothing in comparison to some festivals where the watchword itself is danger.

This article has listed two (2) of the most dangerous festivals in the world after a comparison had been made. And although there have been reports of injuries and fatalities at these festivals, the people have continued to honor the customs, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.

(1.) The San Fermin Festival, Spain

Named after the man behind its inception and who was the first bishop of the city, San Fermin is a popular festival that originated many years ago. The festival properly begins on the 6th of July every year, and until the 14th of the same month, the celebration is done every day.

According to reports, the main event of the festival, and which is the basis of it being considered dangerous is the Bullfight.

Normally, the Bulls for this event are paraded around the town every day from the 6th of July, until the 14th. The participants also get to see the bulls each day and prepare themselves for the challenge up ahead.

The Bullfight or Corroda as it’s locally called is done every afternoon, whereby big and muscular bulls are set free against a set of people, and they must make sure they stay alive regardless of how much the bull goes after them.

The festival is also characterized by the rhythmic chanting of the song by the people of Pamplona, which is done at the main event. The singing goes: “Pamploneses, Viva San Fermín, Gora San Fermín”, which in English means, “People of Pamplona, Long Live Saint Fermín”.

A lot of reports have been made concerning the injuries from the festival. BBCNews reported that three were severely injured during the festival in 2019, while deaths have also been recorded due to any unforeseen circumstances in the planning of the festival.

(2.) Onabashira Festival, Japan

Deep in the plains of Japan exists a very dangerous festival too, the Onabashira festival, perhaps more dangerous than any other. It is celebrated every seven (7) years which is why only a few people know about the festival. The festival is just a celebration of faith in which selected few trees are cut down and transported to the shrines as pillars.

This was where it got its other name “Honored Pillars”. The dangerous part of the festival is during the transport of the logs cut in the forest. Participants of the festival stand on the logs as it is moved from the mountainside.

Without exaggeration, it is reported that not all the participants or the logs make it to the bottom of the mountain in one piece.

A lot of them fall from the logs and rumble down distances before they get medical attention, while others end up trapped and sustain an injury during the process.
