Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) Chairman, DIG Israel Ajao (rtd) has on Monday, warned operatives of the Safety Corps against corruption under any guise while discharging their duties.

The Chairman gave the warning while addressing, Principal Officers, State Officers, Divisional Commanders, Corps Officers, Deputy Corps Officers, and other members in charge of the various units at Local Government / Local Council Development Areas in the State.

Speaking against the backdrop of two officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) who were paraded last week for extortion, he admonished the operatives to steer clear of acts that can bring shame to the Agency.

According to him “I want to warn you that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy have zero tolerance for corruption and extortion. Once you are caught extorting, using your bank accounts or other means to receive bribes, you are on your way out of the LNSC and will also be prosecuted”.

The LNSA boss argued that although the LNSC law permits members to assist in controlling traffic when there’s gridlock, LNSC operatives have no business in obstructing vehicular movements when there’s no traffic.

He added that though the duties of LASTMA and LNSC may sometimes overlap especially when assisting accident victims, LNSC operatives can only complement the efforts of the LASTMA, FRSC and not take over or compete with them.

Similarly, the Chairman warned the officers against going out for operations against criminals without involving the police in order to avoid attacks, adding that their duty in such situations is to gather intelligence and report to the nearest Divisional Police Office in the area for necessary assistance.

The retired Police Boss also urged LNSC operatives to be law abiding and shun any act that may warrant them being arrested and tried in court, saying that “Being an LNSC operative does not grant anyone the immunity against being tried in court if he commits any alleged criminal
