Abike Dabiri Blasts Disrespectful Follower On Twitter
- Dabiri-Erewa worked for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for fifteen years, anchoring the weekly NTA News line programme and taking a particular interest in poverty and social justice issues…
Former Lawmaker and Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has berated a Twitter follower who tagged her to a disrespectful comment.
Following an investigative report by freelance journalist, David Hundeyin, regarding the convoluted details of the murder of Iniubong Umoren, a job-seeker in Uyo who made the headlines after she was killed by one Uduak Akpan, a maniac who lured her to her death in the guise of a phoney job interview; a Twitter user with the moniker @okorochidozie1 tagged the former lawmaker to a comment which reads “Where is Abike Dabiri, come and c real investigative journalism here.”
Abike Dabiri, who, without a shred of doubt had raised the bar during her hugely successful stint as a journalist, took to the comments section to berate the disrespectful follower and remind him of her accolades and numerous accomplishments as an investigative journalist.
When I was in active journalism 18 years ago and I set standards for investigative and human angle stories, you were probably not born or you, as usual, continue to wallow in abject ignorance and unbridled stupidity. My last day of Ramadan. I stop here https://t.co/PMIkGTFRAX

Realistically, no well informed Nigerian who belongs to the millennial generation will probably be able intelligently discuss Abike Dabiri’s journalism career, since she hasn’t been active for the better part of 18 years. Again, even a 30 year-old today would probably struggle to appreciate her immense contributions to the profession, since such an individual would have been only 12 years old when the NiDCOM Chairman quit active journalism for Nigeria’s lower legislative chamber.

Dabiri-Erewa worked for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for fifteen years, anchoring the weekly NTA News line programme and taking a particular interest in poverty and social justice issues. She retired from her position at Nigerian Television Authority to stand for election in the House of Representatives, winning with a substantial majority.
There is no gainsaying highlighting the spectacular career the NiDCOM Chairman enjoyed during her days in active journalism, as a wide range of testimonies abound to substantiate the fact that “Newsline,” a programme she anchored on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) kept many viewers endearingly glued to their screens due to the passion and commitment she exercised in telling the stories of the dregs in the society.

As aptly captured in the popular axiom that “nothing lasts forever,” Abike Dabiri has obviously etched her name in gold as far as investigative journalism goes, having made firm strides in the profession for almost two decades in a highly distinguished career; and, much like a relay race, has passed the baton to the Hundeyins of this world who will one day pass it on to future generation to continue serving as torch-bearers of the society. It therefore translates to gross disrespect to tag a trailblazer of Abike’s pegging to uninformed and drab social media comments.
