Traditional Worshippers Invade Govt’s Housing Project In Ondo

It was like a scene in one of the Nollywood movies when some traditional worshippers stormed the site of an ongoing Housing Estate project in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Monday.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the incident occurred at the site of the project located at Igbatoro Road in Akure metropolis.
The workers at the site were thrown into anxiety following the invasion by the traditional worshippers as they scampered for safety.
The worshippers, who were said to be 21 in number, stressed that their presence on the site located opposite the state police headquarters was necessitated due to an annual ritual required to be performed on the site.
The worshippers, it was further learnt, stormed the site of the project with white pigeon, black fowl, and other objects to perform the purported ritual.
They were led by Chief Abisoye Adigun Asoga of Akureland.
The worshippers were later invited to the police headquarters after the developers of the Federal Housing Estate, and its Managing Director, Otunba Ademola Akin-Benson, sought the intervention of the police.

Akin-Benson, while speaking at the police headquarters, alleged that the worshippers were sponsored by land grabbers to use the ritual at the site to scare away the Federal Housing Estate developer and site workers.
He further stressed that the land had been legally acquired by the Federal Government for the estate.
Akin-Benson added that hoodlums and ritualists had in the past attacked site workers at the estate.
According to him, the attack made him approach the court and the court had ordered all parties including the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, to maintain status quo and allow the project to continue.
Reacting, the leader of the worshippers, Chief Adigun said contrary to allegations of land grabbing, it was the tradition of Akure to perform the ritual at a small rock inside the estate, at least once in ten years.
On his part, the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo described the allegation by the developer as false, noting that the site belongs to Akure traditional worshippers.
Oba Aladetoyinbo, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Michael Adeyeye, stressed that the ritual at the estate site was in line with the Akure’s tradition.
