Hundreds of students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on Monday, protested the abduction of their colleague, Olayinka Toyinbo, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, EKO HOT BLOG has gathered.

The placard-carrying students held the protest as the institution’s main gate with various inscriptions such as “Free our student now”; “I am a student not a prey for kidnappers”, among others.

The students later took their protest to the Ogun State secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Speaking, the President of FUNAAB Students’ Union, Michael Oloyede, appealed to both the federal and state government to ensure the speedy release of the abducted student.

Oloyede further urged the government to do more in securing the lives and property of citizens by providing necessary facilities that would make the job of security operatives easier.

He said, “We are appealing to the government and security agencies to ensure the student is released within 72 hours, or we will shut down the state with another protest.

“The federal and state government should provide more facilities and equipment for security agencies.”

It would be recalled that Olayinka, a 400 level student of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, was abducted at Abule-Itoko in the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday.

The abductors were said to have demanded N50 million ransom.
