Zola Unhappy With Timing Of Chelsea Departure

As one former Chelsea star becomes manager of the Blues, another is left frustrated with not being included in the new backroom staff, with Gianfranco Zola admitting disappointment with the timing of his departure.

As former team-mate, Frank Lampard, takes charge at Stamford Bridge as Maurizio Sarri’s successor on Thursday, it was made known Zola would not be part of his staff, with Jody Morris and Chris Jones due to assist him for the coming season.

“I found out quite late and the manager positions of the other teams have all been sorted out,” the Italian told The Sun on Thursday, the same situation that led former manager, Antonio Conte, sue the club after he was eased out very late penultimate season.

“Regardless, it is a minor thing for me. It was important that it helped my career. Working for a top club with a top coach has been good for me.

“I was head coach before and my main ambition is to return to that. But to work for Maurizio and Chelsea was a great opportunity,” Zola added.
