Benin Stun Morocco Via Penalties To Reach AFCON Quarter Finals
Despite finishing their Round of 16 match against North African side, Morocco, with 10 men and conceding a penalty with seconds to the end of regulation time, Benin became the first side to reach the quarter finals of the ongoing AFCON late Friday.
Riding their luck, the Squirrels eliminated their much more fancied opponents via penalties, eventually winning 4-1 in an extraordinary upset at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.
The tiny West African nation had gone ahead with defender, Moise Adilehou, opening the scoring in the 53rd-minute before Youssef En-Nesyri equalised for the Atlas Lions on 76thminute.
With no other goals recorded, it went to penalties, with Benin advancing after two Morocco players missed their spot kicks apart from the last-gap penalty their young Number 7 missed in regulation time.
