Lagos Permanent Secretary Lauds Peaceful Conduct of Union Election In Epe

The Tutor-General Permanent Secretary of the glowing district, Education District III, Dr Mrs Olufolayimika Ayandele has applauded the peaceful conduct of the recently concluded Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) election in Epe, Lagos State.
The TG/PS, who was represented by Mrs Adefuye Mosunmola, was speaking at the 7th Quadrennial Branch Delegates’ Conference held on Thursday 24th June 2021, at the NUT branch secretariat, LG Primary School, Epe.
“The peaceful conduct of teachers has been exhibited in today’s election. I’m so happy for the Epe community because we have justified and shown to the world that we are peaceful professionals.”
“I give kudos to the teachers in Epe, the NUT particularly, the nominees who are now Excos of the Epe branch. The TG extends her congratulatory message to them and she is particular about the fact that they should strive to become models of the glowing district in all endeavours,” she stated.
The TG, who charged the newly elected executives to exude character and integrity in their representation of the pressure group, frowned at the lopsidedness of candidature and implored the Union to adopt a more gender-sensitive approach.
“In subsequent elections, the NUT should be gender-sensitive. When we have 15 candidates, it should be 8 men, 7 women or vice versa,” she said.
In his welcome address, the outgoing chairman, Comrade Ogunleye Julius Adegbuyi appreciated the members for giving him the mandate to serve for eight years.
He also highlighted the achievements recorded under his leadership and charged the new executives to work assiduously for the growth of the union
Earlier, Comrade Sanni Shakiru Olatunji emerged as the NUT Epe branch chairman after being declared winner via a voice vote. According to the Electoral Official, Comrade Abiodun Onabajo who dissolved the outgone executives before conducting the election, the election, he said, took the dimension of a voice vote, involving a total number of 595 Primary (217) and Secondary (288) school delegates, because all the contestants were unopposed.
They include; Comrade Odumeru Shakiru (Deputy Chairman), Comrade Lawal Adebayo (1st Vice-Chairman), Comrade Emilere Wasiu (2nd Vice-Chairman), Comrade Adeyemi Bello (3rd Vice-Chairman), Comrade Ojikutu W (Secretary), Comrade Bello Yemisi (Treasurer) Comrade Taiwo Adekunle (Publicity Secretary) and Comrade Shopeju Funke (Financial Secretary).
Others include; Comrade Idowu Fatai (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Jimoh Adebisi (Social Secretary), Comrade Awonuga Lateef (Examiner I), Comrade Eleshin Oluwaseyi (Examiner II), Comrade Kassim Adegboyega (Un-Officio I) and Comrade Saheeb Omotayo (Un-Officio II).

Comrade Sanni Shakiru, in his post-election remarks appreciated all members of the union most especially otunba Segun Raheem and the NUT Epe Elders Forum, for their unflinching support and understanding. While he highlighted a few of his administration’s agenda, he promised that his team would serve the members of the union with the hope to better their lives.
In attendance were notable educationists as well as other eminent dignitaries. They include; immediate past NUT National President, Comrade Michael Olukoya Alogba, NUT National Treasurer, Comrade Otunba Segun Raheem, Hon Tosin Osunnuga, former Lekki LCDA Sole Administrator, Alhaji Niyi Obedat, Principal, Epe Junior Grammar School, Elder Agboola M.O, Elder Adeye, Chief Adewale Adekoya, Alhaji Asegere, Elder Oluwo, Elder Hassan, Comrade Oludipe Ebenezer, Mrs Osijo and a host of others.
