Sports Commission Boss Hails Sanwo-Olu Factor In S’Eagles’ Victory
Joining Nigerians in lauding Super Eagles’ 3-2 win over Cameroon at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, also praised the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his trip to Egypt.
As the Super Eagles came from behind to beat Cameroon 3-2 on Saturday, Gafaar said the victory calmed Nigerians who became agitated after the 2-0 loss to debutants, Madagascar in the last group stage.
The Sports commission boss also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for being physically present to cheer the team to victory in Egypt.
“Lagos State is known for excellence and this has once again been demonstrated by His Excellency on the international stage after motivating the Super Eagles to victory in Alexandria, Egypt at a critical moment when they were down,” he said, describing the gesture as a reflection of Sanwo-Olu’s understanding of the sports terrain and importance of identifying with athletes.
“Every athlete derive greater motivation from being appreciated and that was exactly what His excellency did by promising the Super Eagles players handsome reward if they upturn the 2-1 deficit in the second half which they did in a grand style.”
