  • Sunday Igboho has sent a strong message to Yoruba Nation agitators.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the embattled Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, well known as Sunday Igboho, has said that the Yoruba Nation he has been agitating for will soon be actualised.

Sunday Igboho made this known via a statement by his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, on Monday.

According to the statement, Koiki stated that Igboho asked him to express his appreciation to major Yoruba leaders in the country for their support to him in detention in Benin Republic.

Sunday Igboho was further quoted to have thanked the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Osile of Oke Ona Egbaland, Oba Adedapo Adewale Tejuoso; Olugbon of Orile Igbo, Oba Francis Alao; Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka; the President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon; and the country’s Minister of Justice.

The Yoruba Nation was also quoted to have said that the Francophone West African country where he’s being held hostage enjoys steady electricity supply, noting that the same will apply to the separate Yoruba Nation which will soon be achieved.

The statement read, “I am Olayomi Koiki, the spokesman for Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho). Our father, Chief Sunday Igboho extends his greetings to all Yoruba indigenes all over the world.

“He also asked me to send my greetings to the King, Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, he said I should really appreciate you for the support, he said he can see how you’re supporting him because his wife is delivering the messages.

“He said I should also thank the Oba Tejuoso who has arrived in Benin Republic though they haven’t seen each other. He also said I should thank our father, the Olugbon.

“Igboho also asked me to extend my greeting to Wole Soyinka, he said I should also thank President Talon of the Benin Republic, he said I should thank the Minister of Justice (in Benin Republic) because despite what’s happening, the security of Igboho’s wife is guaranteed.

“He said we should take a look at Benin Republic enjoying steady electricity supply. That’s what we desire in the Yoruba Nation we have been agitating for and we will get there very soon,” Koiki stated.

EKOHOTBLOG recalls that Sunday Igboho, who gained prominence following an ultimatum he issued to criminal herdsmen in the South-West, was arrested alongside his wife on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.

Sunday Igboho’s wife, Ropo, was released after the court found out that she had not committed any offence.

On his part, the embattled Yoruba Nation agitator was returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

This came after the Beninese court ordered that Sunday Igboho be remanded in a prison facility in the Francophone West African nation while further investigations were carried out on the case against the agitator.

The Yoruba rights activist, who is now seeking asylum in the Benin Republic, is facing allegations bordering on trafficking in arms, inciting violence and causing disunity in Nigeria.
