  • “We trust the judiciary and they have people of high integrity.”

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the umbrella body of the Yoruba self-determination group, Ilana Omo Oodua, has condemned Federal Government’s plan to file fresh charges against the embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, fondly known as Sunday Igboho.

EKOHOTBLOG had earlier reported that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in New York, said the FG may file fresh charges against Sunday Igboho following the judgment of Oyo State High Court which awarded N20 billion damages in favour of the Yoruba secessionist leader.

Malami, while speaking on the judgment of the Oyo High Court, said the position of the FG on the ruling was about “law and jurisdiction”.

However, the Ilana Omo Oodua, while reacting to reports that the Federal Government was considering filing fresh charges against Igboho on Thursday, enjoined the FG to pay the N20bn damages awarded to the Yoruba secessionist leader by the court.

The spokesperson of the group, Maxwell Adeleye, who made this known on Thursday, added that the Federal Government was only interested in damaging the reputation of the Yoruba rights activist.

Adeleye further stressed that Sunday Igboho had not committed any offence that warranted him to be jailed, adding that his aides would also be suing the FG again for damaging their reputation.

He said, “The Federal Government will fail again. Igboho has not committed any offence and he can’t be sent to jail for committing no offence. We advise the Federal Government to pay the N20bn damages.

“We also have a plan to file counter-charges for Igboho’s aide arrested and paraded. They damaged their reputation and that has affected their means of livelihood. We trust the judiciary and they have people of high integrity. Let them go to court,” the spokesperson of Ilana Omo Oodua said.
