  • Lagos Government has extended the period of traffic diversion on Apapa/Oshodi Expressway.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the Lagos State Government has extended the period of traffic diversion on the Apapa/Oshodi Expressway from the scheduled completion date of October 2, 2021, to October 30, 2021, following the repair works on the Airport Flyover Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The latest development was made known via a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, on Thursday.

Oladeinde explained that the extension of the period would allow the concrete jacketing of the damaged bridge to achieve maximum strength before it is reopened.

The commissioner, however, assured that the main carriageway will be opened as soon as the process is completed, noting that hastiness will be detrimental to the progress made in restoring the structure back to the optimum standard.

He stated that motorists will continue with the current traffic diversion plan involving the use of alternate lanes freed up by the contractors during the course of the rehabilitation.

While lauding the citizenry for their perseverance in the face of simultaneous construction works across the state, the commissioner appealed for more cooperation with the state government and its agencies to speed up the completion time of ongoing projects and provide seamless traffic movement in Lagos State.

It would be recalled that the structure of the bridge was affected by the inferno that occurred in January 2021 as a result of a loaded PMS tanker that exploded.
