Lagos Road Crashes: FRSC Reveals Number Of Accident Victims In Eight Months

  • FRSC has revealed number of accidents in Lagos road crashes in eight months.

 

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos State has disclosed that 101 persons died while 625 sustained varying degrees of injury in road crashes in the state between January and August, 2021.

The Lagos Sector Commander, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemile, made the disclosure during the 2021 Ember Month Safety Campaign Flag-Off on Friday.

 

The campaign was tagged, ‘Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Driving and Enjoy Quality Road Experience’ and organised by Badagry Command of the corps.

Speaking at the event, the Lagos Sector Commander revealed that 15,000 traffic offenders were arrested for various offences while 432 were arrested for driving without valid driving licences during the period, adding that all the affected vehicles had been impounded.

 

Ogungbemile, while speaking on the Ember campaign, stated that crashes were caused due to disobedience to traffic rules and regulations by road users.

“The Ember months flag-off is to re-awake the minds of various Stakeholders, drivers and all road users to the challenge of ensuring road traffic crash free. We will continue to build programmes within the primary theme of this year’s campaign and continue to meet the risk factors with adequate interventions,” he stated.

 

The Lagos Sector Commander further enjoined road users in Badagry to drive with caution, noting that life had no duplicate.

In his welcome address, the Unit Commander, FRSC Badagry, Mr Sulaiman Taiwo, urged motorists to plan their journeys and avoid night driving.

 

Taiwo added that the major road crashes usually recorded were due to unplanned journey and night driving.
