Ekohotblog reports that Stefan Bieret, who works for the sergeant-at-arms of the United States House of Representatives has been accused of possessing child pornography.
Stefan Bieret, 41, of Burke, Virginia, was arrested and charged with ten counts for having child pornography on Wednesday, according to Fairfax County police.
According to the Washington Post, he is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month. Bieret’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
According to authorities, the inquiry began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was alerted of a possibly illegal photograph posted to a Dropbox account. A task force on online crimes against children was notified of the incident.
The account’s owner was discovered to reside in Fairfax County. In August, county detectives took over the case. A search warrant on the Dropbox account turned up more photos of child sexual assault, and further search warrants led police to identify the account’s owner as Bieret, according to authorities.
Fairfax investigators conducted a search warrant on Bieret’s house on Wednesday and collected many gadgets.
Bieret works as a program manager for the sergeant-at-arms, the chief law enforcement and protocol officer for the House of Representatives, responsible for maintaining order in the House side of the U.S. Capitol complex. He is listed as having worked for Congress since 2004, according to Legistorm, a tracking site.
