The Governorship candidate broke down in tears when he visited Okpoko community to flag off construction of a multi million naira road project

Ekohotblog reports that ahead of the Anambra gubernatorial election, the Governorship candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, broke down in tears when he visited Okpoko community to flag off construction of a multi million naira road project on Wednesday.

This online media reports that the project is the Ede road, School Road/ Awalite and Ojoto street retiring at Owerri road in Okpoko community, Ogbaru local government area of the state.

However, Okonkwo, on broke down in tears as a hungry nursing mother, Miss Amarachi Nwachukwu collapsed in front of him at a function in Okpoko, in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state, while hawking sachet water in the area.

Nwachukwu, was said to be on her way to buy a bag of sachet water which she will sell to feed her family when she staggered to the ground with her baby strapped to her back.

Findings revealed that Okonkwo who wept while rushing to resuscitate the victim was seen cleaning his face of tears with a white handkerchief.

Amarachi, a “pure water” seller after being resuscitated and fed was given N200,000 by the candidate on the spot to begin any business of her choice to enable her fend for herself and baby.

Narrating her condition to journalists, Mrs Nwachukwu said: “I borrowed N200 from a good Samaritan to buy a bag water to sell so as to feed my child because we have not eaten for two days. I was on my way to the shop before I lost control and fell down.”

Speaking shortly after the incident, the ZLP flag bearer expressed that the people of the state had been subjected to untold hardship due to the failure of the state government to impact on the well being of the people.

He said: ” We saw the woman fell possibly as a result of starvation and we bought food for her. When we discovered that she couldn’t eat, we fed her and the child by our self. We also raised 200,000 through my foundation for her to start a petty business.

“This is the condition of people of the state. If we had not come here, we wouldn’t know that that there are people created by God and who live in penury under the leadership of this current administration. Some people cannot afford a meal. If this incident can happen before us, that means there are thousands of others who are languishing in poverty in the neighborhood.

“The APGA administration has gone so bad in the state. No matter how much campaign they indulge in, 16 years is enough to have turned Anambra into a modern state.”

Reacting to the new project, the president general of the community, Francis Enemuo, said it is a divine intervention from the business man and prayed that God give him victory to do more for the people of the state.
