JUST IN: Security Operatives Arrest ESN Commander In Anambra

Security operatives have arrested ESN Commander in Anambra State.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that security operatives have arrested a top commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who also commands its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

It was gathered that the commander was arrested in Ekwukobia in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday afternoon.

The latest development is coming after the Nigerian Army disclosed the killing of IPOB fighters in the state on Saturday.

EKOHOTBLOG had reported that the troops of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army conducting “Exercise Golden Dawn” in the South-East region of the country, killed no fewer than four gunmen of the proscribed IPOB/ESN at Nnobi in Anambra State.

The elimination of the IPOB fighters was disclosed via a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, on Saturday.

Nwachukwu noted that the soldiers neutralised the ESN fighters in a gun battle on Friday evening at Nnobi Junction in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

However, a source, on Saturday, revealed that the ESN commander was arrested in his house with a bullet wound after a tip-off to the police by concerned individuals.

This online news platform understands that though the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the arrest of the ESN commander, as his phone could not be reached.

However, a senior police officer confirmed the arrest.

The senior police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “One Udebuan Sage Chubueze ‘M’, a top Commander of IPOB/ESN was arrested today (Saturday).

“The suspect was arrested with a gunshot injury on 29th October 2021. A search was conducted in his house at Ekwulobia and Nnewi where four AK-47, two automatic pump-action, and ammunition were recovered.

“The suspect confessed to have led several attacks on police facilities and responsible for the killings of several policemen and Naval personnel. We commend this breakthrough as this will further weaken the strength of IPOB/ESN against the security men,” Daily Post quoted the senior police officer to have said.

State of emergency

The police officer added that investigation has begun, noting that the arrested operative have been making useful confessions to security agents that can aid the arrest of his colleagues.
