PDP Convention: Osun Delegates React To Arapaja’s Victory, Tackle Oyo Gov
-
The PDP delegates from Osun state have reacted to Arapaja’s victory and tackled the Oyo state Governor.
Ekohotblog reports that following the emergence of Taofeek Arapaja as the new Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, some delegates from Osun have expressed their views.
This online media reports that the delegates accused the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, of having some of the strategic positions to himself, others saw it as pure party politics.
While speaking in an interview with PUNCH, one of the delegates from Osun who spoke in confidence with our correspondent accused the Governor of Oyo state of having most of the position to his camp.

He said, “What happened at the end of the day is that Makinde saw him as a threat and if he must continue to maintain his dominance in South-West, he must install his person in that position. He knows Oyinlola is closed to most of the power brokers in the country and cannot be kicked around. This was why Makinde used everything within his reach to stop him. But this, in the actual sense, is not fair.
“Five of the members of the Board of Trustees are from the zone are from his camp. Leaders in the South west zone of the party are largely those in his camp too. He’s no doubt the leader of the party but things are not being done this way. He should carry everyone along.”
Corroborating, another Osun PDP delegate who identified himself as Folorunsho Babarinde said, “The Governors forum decided who they wanted. They are the ones calling the shot in the party. It didn’t start now, and this won’t be the last.
“The ones in power won’t forever remain there. The good side of this is that, for the first time, it brought the two groups in Osun together and if we can do this, we are ready to wrestle power from the APC in the state.”
However, the former deputy National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi said what transpired was nothing but interest, adding that the party had a mechanism to ensure the party remains united after the convention.
“What happened is interest and this sometimes shift. Oyinlola was once in his group but contested against one of his members in the same group but what matters is that we are all in the PDP.
“We are all together. Only that when interest clashes, we go into different camps and once a winner emerge we would come together as a party. This is an internal election and we have our mechanism of bringing everybody together,” he said.
