Baton Rouge Mayor Lauds Eko Club International For Community Development Initiative
Sharon Weston Broome, Mayor of Baton Rouge, Louisiana has lauded diaspora-based Lagos group, Eko Club International for its generous donation to the Baton Rouge Food Bank as part of its community development outreach program.
Eko Hot Blog reported earlier that the diaspora group made the goodwill donation with the aim of supporting the victims of Hurricane IDA as part of the lineup of activities to mark the 12th Biennial Convention of the organisation.
Mayor Broome, lauding the initiative by the club took to her verified Instagram page to share a photo of herself wielding a giant cheque alongside some representatives of the organisation.
She wrote: “Thank you to EKO Club International (@ekoclubinternational) for your generous donation to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Today I had the pleasure of officially opening their 12th International Convention here in Baton Rouge.”
The 12 Biennial convention of the organisation, which marked its first major gathering post-Covid lockdown restrictions held between October 28-30 with the theme “Food /Infrastructure and Community Safety- Strategy for Lagos state, Nigeria.”
Mayor Broome, a special guest of honour performed the honours of declaring the Economic Session open.

Over 1000 participants from the United States, Europe and Canada, officials of the Lagos State Government and traditional rulers from Nigeria were in attendance for the 12th biennial conference of the organisation.
The conference also featured a party bus ride to New Orleans, meaningful dialogue on how to move Lagos State to greater heights, a 3 miles marathon, a conference meeting, an election to usher in new executives as well as the Gala night.
The peaceful election which drew the curtain on the 3-day event witnessed the emergence of Chief Saheed Olusi as the new President of the Club, marking an end to the Lanre Ojo led administration.
