EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, swore-in, Adenrera Olayinka Adeyemi as the first female State’s High Court judge from Epe at the Governor’s Office, Alausa, Ikeja.

Formerly a Director at the office of Public Prosecution, Adeyemi joined an exclusive list of legal luminaries saddled with a higher responsibility of carrying the course of justice at the jurisdiction of the state high court.

The appointment echoes as another feather to the cap of the seasoned judicial officer who was appointed Director at the Office of Public Prosecutions only seven months ago and has further crested the history books as the first female high court judge in the Epe community.

Adeyemi assumes her new role as a Judge at the High Court of Lagos State with 30 years of litigation experience spanning private practice and public service.

Called to the Nigerian bar in 1991, Adeyemi started her career with the Chambers of Olomola-Owa & Co as Junior Counsel in 1992 and later moved to Iranloye & Co where she became fully involved in a litigation practice.

In 1994 she joined the Civil Service working with Lagos State Ministry of Justice as Legal Officer I in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. She became a seasoned Public Prosecutor and rose to the post of Chief State Counsel.

In 2004 she was transferred to the Office of the Public Defender, where she rose to the post of Director. In September 2015, she was transferred to the Directorate of Civil Litigation.

She later became the Director, Advisory and Legal Services, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

In January 2018, she was transferred back to the Ministry of Justice and had a brief stint at the Directorate for Citizen’s Rights.

In April 2018, she became the Director Office of the Public Defender. She was later redeployed in April 2020 to the mainstream of the Ministry of Justice as the Director of Public Prosecutions.

She has an LLB(Hons) from Lagos State University Ojo Lagos and a Masters Degree in Law from the University of Lagos.

Adeyemi has undergone several pieces of training both locally and internationally to develop her managerial and professional skills.

She attended training in Good Governance at the prestigious University of Pretoria, South Africa.

She has also been trained as Human Right Field Worker at the National University Ireland, Maynooth, Dublin.

She has advanced training in criminal defence from the Continue Legal Education Program of the National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, USA.

She is also trained in Trial Advocacy and has undergone a Course on Crime Scene Investigation by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA), Colorado, USA.

She is a Faculty Member of NITA, having been trained in Train, the Trainer by NITA.

She is an advocate of Restorative Justice in the administration of the criminal justice system and has presented papers on mediation in criminal cases internationally.

She is an International Certified CEDR Mediator UK. She is also a Chartered Mediator, having undergone training with the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Abuja.

She has attended conferences and workshops both locally and internationally, including International Bar Conference.

She is a member of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), African Women Lawyers’ Association (AWLA), International Bar Association, and Federation of Women’s Lawyers (FIDA).

She is a member of the Epe Progressive Women Association as well as the AMBSAM Foundation, a non for profit group dedicated to immortalising the ultimate sacrifice of Epe youths who gave up their lives in service of the community.
