EKO HOT BLOG reports that the host nation of the ongoing African Cup of Nations, Cameroon, won their group A opening game of the competition by beating Burkina Faso by two goals to one.

Vincent Aboubakar scored two penalties for Cameroon, while Gustavo Sangare scored Burkina Faso’s only goal.

In the game, Burkina Faso scored the first goal of the match, but two accurate penalties from Cameroon turned the game in their favour.

What this means for Cameroon?

By winning their opening game, Cameroon have shown how ready they are to host to win. A first win, though scrappy, means Cameroon just have to win their next game, to have a 90 per cent chance of qualifying for the knock out stage.

A win for Cameroon will be of commercial benefits to the organizers of the competition, as the more time Cameroon spends in the competition, the more interesting the competition will be.

In other news, EKO HOT BLOG reports that Cape Verde won their own opening game against Ethiopia, in the second game of Group A. They won by one goal to none.
