EKO HOT BLOG reports that Super Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem, has fallen ill ahead of Nigeria’s second group stage Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Sudan this weekend.
The Alanyaspor of Turkey player did not train with the rest of his teammates on Thursday, placing his participation in Saturday’s AFCON 2022 match in doubt.
Awaziem was not named in Nigeria’s squad that defeated Egypt in the opening game. Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong marshalled the backline excellently, keeping global star, Mohamed Salah, at bay.

While there have been insinuations that the 25-year-old may have contracted COVID-19, one of the team officials said according to Goal that the former FC Porto man is ‘under the weather’ and would be back in the coming days.
Three points on Saturday will guarantee group leaders Nigeria a place in the Round of 16 of the 33rd AFCON, meaning a more relaxed approach to their final group phase clash with debutants Guinea Bissau also in Garoua next Wednesday.
Should they finish top of Group D, the three-time African champions will remain in Garoua for their Round of 16 tasks.
