BREAKING: Imo Police Bust ESN Camp, Kill One IPOB Member [PHOTOS]

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Rabiu Hussaini, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, on Saturday announced the discovery of a terror camp purportedly operated by the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise area of the State.

The Imo Police spokesperson, Michael Abattam, said the camp was a hideout for terrorism, kidnapping, killing of innocent citizens, and other heinous crimes.

Per Abattam, the ESN camp was busted on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 “following credible intelligence”.

According to him, upon sighting the police, the lawbreakers opened fire on them, and a gun battle ensued, during which one of the suspects was gunned down while others scampered into the adjoining bushes fatally injured with gunshot injuries.

Items recovered from the camp included one AK47 rifle with 40 rounds of live ammunition, 10 locally fabricated explosives devices, one Police hand grenade, two Toyota Highlander (SUV) Jeeps without registration numbers, one Lexus 350 SUV without registration number, one Lexus 330 SUV without registration number, two Biafran flags, different assorted charms, and different clothes suspected to belong to kidnapped or robbed victims.

IPOB members say the region has been economically and politically marginalised since the end of the civil war. In recent years, the group increasingly began to amass foot soldiers culminating in the launch of its paramilitary arm, the ESN.

Announcing its launch in December 2020, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, said the new line of defence was necessary “to end years of terrorism in our land”. Since then, security agencies say IPOB has been responsible for repeated episodes of unrest across the five Southeast states.
