Traffic accidents are common in Nigeria, where roads are ill-maintained and safety standards poor. In recent years, there has been a substantial increase in the number of fuel-truck accidents involving fire outbreaks in Nigeria. These accident explosions have mechanical-induced actions on the road, with potential costly damages to structures and non-structural property exposed to them, and loss of lives.
Concerned citizens have called for more education among tanker drivers and adequate legislation for tank manufacturers.
Media reports indicate that between 2019 and 2021, Nigeria experienced severe fire incidents, leading to 79 deaths out of 68 fires recorded in 18 months.
