JUST IN: One Reportedly Swept Away In Massive Abuja Flood
A massive flood that hit Abuja on Friday morning has led to the sweeping away of at least one individual.
The individual swept away is believed to be the FCT High Court’s Director of Finance, Tony Okecheme.
The flood had the biggest devastations recorded at the Karu, Lokogoma and Galadimawa which is very close to the city centre.
According to PUNCH, Okecheme was headed to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when his car got trapped in the flood.
He, alongside his driver fought to escape from the flood with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also trying to rescue them. They were however unable to rescue them before some locals rescued Okecheme’s driver. The Finance Director’s body is yet to be seen as at filing this report with the great flood suspected to have swept him away.
His driver has since been taken to the Asokoro Hospital for better medical attention, as the search for the FCT High Court official continues.
The mud-filled Toyota Camry 2017 vehicle has been taken rescued from the huge flood.
The devastation has also left several others injured, with many hanging on to trees for safety after the flood occurred following a very heavy downpour.
