The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi, has disclosed intention to scrap some government agencies including the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) at the state level and put in care of the local government if elected as the governor of the state in March.

Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting/Interactive Session organized by the GRA-Ikeja Residents Association and GRA-Ikeja Today Newsmagazine, the guber candidate claimed that those agencies were supposed to be controlled by local government authorities and serve as sources of internal generated revenue (IGR) for them.
According to him, local governments could be vibrant and efficient only when they are autonomous.

He said local governments were supposed to be in charge of primary health care, primary education, saying they must be financially empowered and independent to be able to run those institutions and create jobs for the people at the grassroots.
“As part of my agenda, I will make local government financially independent. They must be able to create job and generate revenue for the development of the community.
“At the state level, LASAA must go, LAWMA must go. The state government has no business managing waste in those communities. If we build schools and primary health center in each local government area, we will handle them over to the local government to manage and the way they would be able to manage them are to have their own sources of IGR such as LAWMA and LASAA.

“Each local government must manage waste and generate income from that. The local government must be the ones controlling the LASAA not the state government.”
Gbadamosi also promised that within eight months period, he would provide basic amenities such as steady power supply, modern drainages, wired telecom, good roads, water and gas distribution in over eight local government areas.
