Kuriga is in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, known for its notoriety in banditry.

The latest attack happened barely a week after the terrorists invaded the highway where a student of Government Science Secondary School, Birnin-Gwari, was reportedly shot and escaped with bullet wounds on his way to register for Joint Admission and Matriculations Board’s Unified Matriculations Examination in the state capital, Kaduna.
Seven others were killed by the bandits, while 57 persons, including women and children, were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination by the terrorists.
According to the Chairman, Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, in a statement, on Friday, among those killed by the hoodlums were Saifudeen Lawal Isa and another male from Brinin-Gwari, one person from Kuriga, and two others from Udawa.
Nagwari said the incident took place around 4:30pm on Thursday when the bandits opened fire on motorists along the highway on three occasions, adding also that seven persons including two women were injured with bullet wounds.
Besides, the chairman said the terrorists razed tanker vehicle loaded with 33,000 litres of fuel being conveyed to Birnin-Gwari.
He noted that the terrorists operate on a daily basis on the same highway unhindered.
“The terrorists burnt to ashes a tanker conveying 33,000 litres of fuel to Brinin-Gwari at the same Manini killing field,” he said.
The chairman noted that the troubling security situation along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road and the displacement of communities by the bandits in the entire Emirate has reached a level that citizens can no longer move in the area.
Nagwari asked President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on the area and adopted a full scale bombardment around the Brinin-Gwari forests and the adjoining forests of Niger, Katsina and Zamfara states.
The chairman also called for speedy establishment of a special JAMB/CBT centre in Brinin-Gwari to allow their students their rights to quality education, saying that “since movement to Kaduna is now a mirage due to deteriorating security situation in the area.”
