When the distress call came in, the DPO Isara division, CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin, quickly mobilized his men, along with local vigilante men, and moved to the scene. When the hoodlums saw the cops, they opened fire, and the cops retaliated. At the conclusion of the encounter, the robbers, who had suffered varying degrees of gunshot wounds, took to their heels and fled into the bush.
Sodiq Yahaya was seen lying down with a gunshot wound while the police were tracing them in the bush, and he was promptly arrested.
Confirming the incident, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson for the state police command, stated that the suspect provided useful information to the police about previous robberies in and around Shagamu. He admitted that his gang always targets student hostels for their operations because students, particularly female students, are easy to rob.
Meanwhile, CP Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police, has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for a thorough investigation. He also ordered a massive manhunt for the gang’s remaining members. The CP has asked members of the public, particularly hospital and traditional healers, to call the police if they see anyone with a gunshot wound in their area.
