EKO HOT BLOG reports that a retired Accountant with the Lagos State Central Business District, Alhaja Mariam Omobolanle Shasi Bajulaiye, has been turbaned as the “Iya Sunnah” of Oluwakemi Central Mosque, Agric Epe, for the propagation of Islam in the community.
The senior citizen, who has previously worked in the Iya Sunnah” of Oluwakemi Central Mosque, Agric Epe, was honoured, based on her tremendous and laudable contributions towards the affairs of the popular mosque, the Islamic religion and humanity.
The officiating Imam, who presented the staff of office and certificate to the Islamic chiefs, Fadeelatul Sheikh Alhaji Abdul-Lateef Oladapo Ayeogbaro, the Grand Chief Imam of Epe Central Mosque, Ita-Opo, and other guests who graced the event attested to the humble, respectful, cheerful, meek and benevolent disposition of Alhaja Mariam towards humanity.
Speaking in an interview on the sideline of the colourful event, the Iya Sunnah of Oluwakemi Central Mosque expressed joy towards the honour bestowed on her by her fellow Ulamas.
“I am so happy and give all the glory to Almighty Allah. It pleases my soul. I am happy to be a recipient of this honour and I want to use this medium to appreciate the leadership of the mosque and its members,” she said.
Alhaja Bajulaiye explained that her resolve to use her position to propagate the advancement of Islam is in tandem with the age-long tradition which stipulates that the training of the girl-child, who in turn becomes a woman, is tantamount to acts of nation-building.
She lamented the present trend of the womenfolk whose paramount interest is deeply involved in “chasing money” rather than making concerted efforts towards the general well-being of the home.
“I will encourage our mothers to put more efforts in the home front so that our youths would have good moral and spiritual education because mothers are the pillars of the home. We should not think of money always, we should think of the upbringing of our kids because when we give children a good education, they will give us rest of mind in our old age. And as for the money we are chasing, we brought nothing to this world and we will go with nothing,” she said.
The new Iya Sunnah stated further that education and vocational training has become inseparable for the advancement of youths and advised that career paths of parents should not in any way affect adequate parenting. She observed that the act of leaving children with childminders is inimical to acceptable Islamic social values, morals and norms.
As the Iya Sunnah of OluwaKemi Central Mosque, Agric, Epe, she assured all and sundry of her resolve to continually use her position to propagate Islam. This, she said, would be executed through her foundation, Al-Mufaisha, where women and traders are empowered, especially, through soft loans.
The Grand Chief Imam of Epe Central Mosque, Fadeelatul Sheikh Abdul-Lateef Oladapo Ayeogbaro, while reacting to the development in an interview with EKO HOT BLOG charged the newly installed chiefs to utilise their God-given resources towards the development of the mosque and Islam entirely.
Also, the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Fadeelatul Sheikh Alhaji Almurtado, in his lecture, tasked the newly installed Chief Imam, the other chiefs and the entire Ulamas to focus on their duties, stressing the need to operate on the core principles of equity, justice, transparency and dedication for the smooth and peaceful operation of the Central Mosque.
He further advised that the chiefs and the entire Ulamas should accord the Chief Imam respect and regard, irrespective of his youthful age, stressing that the task is more of a voluntary endeavour since it is not wage-structured, such which ought to have been facilitated by the Epe Local Government and the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs.
