EKO HOT BLOG reports that Idris Bello-Dambazau, the managing director of the Kano Consumer Protection Council (KCPC), has been threatened with arrest by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).
Mr Bello-Dambazau failed to react to requests to answer to petitions of corruption charges against him by the Kano anti-graft agency, according to PCACC Chairman Mahmoud Balarabe, who issued the threat on Thursday.
“Police officers from our Operations Department went to his office to arrest him, but he was not on the seat,” he explained. “They looked everywhere for him but couldn’t find him. He should either accept our invitation or risk being arrested wherever we find him.”
Mr Balarabe said the Kano anti-graft agency had received numerous complaints about the KCPC boss’s alleged corruption and other misdeeds.
“When a petition is filed against someone, we are required by law to invite them.” This is to ensure that the person has a chance to respond to the petition in the interests of justice and a fair hearing,” he explained.
Mr Balarabe pointed out that the law that established the PCACC gave it the authority to arrest anyone who did not respond to its invitation.
