EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra on Friday said that individuals responsible for the killings, abductions, and property destruction in the South-East were recruited by politicians.
According to the group, the perpetrators of the crime in the region were hired to defame IPOB and the Eastern Security Network.
The group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, stated in a statement on Saturday that those behind the horrific acts were people who did not want its incarcerated leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to regain freedom.
Powerful said their primary intention was to create the false impression that Kanu’s followers were violent.
He stated that IPOB would safeguard all people residing in Biafra land, even non-indigenes.
“We desire to say unambiguously that those responsible for these atrocities in the South-East are neither IPOB members nor ESN operatives,” he stated.
“The perpetrators are criminals recruited by politicians to demonise us. No member of IPOB will engage in acts inimical to the people we are struggling to liberate. We are not terrorists and we cannot suddenly resort to terrorism.
“We want to make it categorically clear to all and sundry that anybody committing any atrocity in Biafra land in the name of IPOB or ESN operative doesn’t want Biafra to come.”

The group also stated that the offenders are collaborating with security forces to criminalize IPOB and that they should be prepared to pay for their actions because “we will not let anyone go free who inflicts agony and anguish on our people.”
