It is always necessary for a person not to eat foods that are way past their prime, eggs are not excluded from the list of foods that naturally have expiry date and can cause some infections and irritation if consumed after it expires or gets exposed to bacteria and infections.
So, in this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we would be looking at ways to identify bad eggs before cooking.
1. Use the sink test
The best kept secret for determining the freshness of an egg is to examine if it sinks in water. To perform the egg water test, just submerge the eggs in a glass or bowl of cold water. The eggs are still fresh if they sink to the bottom. But, any eggs that float to the surface should not be eaten.
2. Shake it
Another, very reliable way is to hold an egg up to your ear and shake it. It’s bad if you hear liquid bobbing around. On the other hand, silence indicates it is in good condition. A bobbing sound usually indicates an old, watery yolk.
3. Inspect the shell
If the egg has a chalky or white spots on the shell. This is one of the ways of spotting a spoilt egg, to avoid eating something that would in the long run cause stomach upset, vomiting and also expose you to some bacterial infections. Chalky spots on the egg shell is one strong indicator that the egg has stayed past a week
4. Sniff it out
If the egg fails the smell test, it should be discarded. When cracked, eggs should have a neutral odor rather than a particular sulfuric, gassy, or sour odour.
