EKO HOT BLOG reports that gunmen on Friday night opened fire in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau state, killing one person and injuring two others.

All of the victims were students at a boarding school in the area, according to reports.

The students were said to have gone to a nearby filling station to charge their phones when the gunmen opened fire on them, killing one student on the spot and injuring two others.

Sunday Gyang, a community leader in the area, confirmed the attack in Jos on Saturday, saying it happened around 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Gyang said, “what happened was that yesterday afternoon (Friday) some Fulani herdsmen who were staying at a location in the community using their cows to destroy farm lands of the native community were driven away. So, last night (Friday), they sent terrorists to attack the community.

“Unfortunately, around Science School Kuru, by Emmy fuelling station opposite Assemblies of God’s Church closed to the school, the bandits who came in J5 vehicle opened fire on people.

A few Science School Kuru students who went there to charge their phones were harmed. One of them, who was shot in the neck by the gunmen, died on the spot, while two others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The terrorist attack on the community would have been far more devastating if not for the fact that the terrorists’ gunshots drew the attention of some security escorts on transit, who responded and chased the terrorists away.”
