EDITOR’S PICK:

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Onikosi Family’s indiscriminate excavation of the Magodo Wetlands has been strongly denounced by the Lagos State Government as being a severe risk to lives and property.

Dr. Idris Salako, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, termed the Onikosi family’s behavior as inappropriate, inflammatory, and at odds with the civic gesture of the State Government, which has shown complete faith in the Rule of Law in the Magodo land story.

He said: “While the Government was busy making efforts to resettle the Onikosi family in Magodo Scheme III, being created in between Scheme I and II and Omole Estate, the family decided to stoop so low by taking the law into their hands and traumatising innocent citizens with the unlawful act, which has affected the foundation of some buildings in Magodo GRA.

“It is unimaginable that any family in Lagos State, noted for her unrivalled sense of accommodation and conviviality, will go to this length to inflict pain on others despite reassurances by the Government”, Dr. Salako stated.

The Commissioner warned the Onikosi family to stop engaging in any questionable behavior going forward, including the current ill-advised excavation in the Estate, or else the Lagos State Government would impose harsh penalties.

While this was going on, Salako went to see Mr. Bolaji Omotoso, a resident of Magodo Scheme II, to see the extent of damage done to his property as a result of the excavation by the Onikosi family. He commiserated with the resident and gave him the go-ahead to evacuate the building while the building’s structural integrity was being properly assessed.

The Commissioner emphasized that it was no longer safe to remain inside the structure because it could collapse under the weight of heavy rain and that the area being excavated had been blocked to stop the situation.
