EKO HOT BLOG reports that the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has sent a powerful message to the people of the southeast region after being denied bail.

The embattled leader of IPOB said the verdict of Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, denying him bail and adjourning his trial is ‘expected’.

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja since his rearrest in Kenya in 2021.

Speaking shortly after Tuesday’s court session which went against him.
The 54-year-old separatist leader asked the people of the southeast region to “remain calm” and make the zone peaceful.

“It is what we expect. But I want our people to be very calm. I want Biafranland to be calm, calm, and very peaceful. We are fighting to defend our people, not to kill them.

“We are fighting to defend them, that’s why I’m here. And we will continue to do so until we get victory,” Kanu said.

Kanu had, in a fresh application, prayed the court to release him on bail, pending the determination of his trial on alleged treasonable felony.

The secessionist agitator, who is standing trial on a seven-count charge of alleged treasonable felony, pleaded not guilty to the charge, following which his lead lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), urged the court to admit him to bail.
