We all love to taste the food we eat so that we can enjoy it. Salt is a very important ingredient needed for us to prepare our food and make it tasty. According to Healthline, salt contains 60 percent chloride and 40 percent sodium.
Sometimes, salt is added to foods to prevent them from spoiling. Our bodies need some of the minerals in salt for our nerves and muscles to perform very well. They also help our bodies to have a proper balance between minerals and water.

1. Dehydration
You feel very thirsty and dehydrated more often because your body needs enough water to compensate for the level of salt in your body. This can cause frequent urination. However, when you eat an excess of salt and you don’t drink enough water, this can be very dangerous.
It will cause sodium and water to accumulate in your blood, and you will have hypernatremia. This can end someone’s life because they will not be able to sleep or urinate very well again.

Too much salt in our foods damages the heart and can lead to an untimely death. When the person has hypertension and their vessels become clogged, this will affect the heart’s function and lead to death.
3. Cause Hypertension
Your blood pressure will go up and you will have hypertension. The rate at which blood flows through your veins and vessels will increase.
However, some of us have a body that is immune to salt, so we may not have hypertension immediately if there’s an excess of salt in our systems. Those who don’t have a body that is immune to salt will experience hypertension.
4. Aids Cancer in the body
It also predisposes someone to easily having cancer in the stomach. Studies have shown that many people have stomach cancer due to excess salt in their bodies.
5. Swollen body parts
Have you ever seen someone with swollen feet or a swollen stomach? This is a sign that the person is eating too much salt in their diet. This has caused an imbalance in the level of water retained in their bodies.
