1. Cross River varsity shut down over student’s abduction
The management of Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River State has shut down the school indefinitely following the kidnapping of a student on Tuesday night.
The private university’s acting Registrar, Ughas Ngozi Felicia, issued the circular on Wednesday directing parents and guardians to pick up their children and wards from the university within 24 hours.
According to the statement, students currently writing examinations will continue in the next academic session, while final year students who are to do their final defence will be notified in due course.
The statement said, “The Management has approved the commencement of the 2021/2022 vacation with effect from Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
2. Water bill, political tool for some Nigerians—FG
The Federal Government, Wednesday, said some Nigerians were using the Water Resources Bill as a political tool against the Buhari-led regime.
It also appealed to Nigerians to “allow the national assembly” to do its work on the bill.
The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The water bill has sparked another wave of controversy since it was recently re-presented for consideration at the National Assembly.
3. WAFCON: Falcons shun training, protest unpaid allowances
The Nigerian female national team, Super Falcons reportedly shunned training Wednesday night ahead of the third-place match in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as they protested unpaid allowances.
Complete Sports reports that the Falcons protested over unpaid bonuses and allowances.
The players had reportedly met with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation over the issue Wednesday morning.
Wednesday’s protest was not the first to be staged by the Nigerian players.

4. LASRAA: Over 6.5M residents registered so far, as Lagos targets 10M by December — Sanwo-Olu
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has disclosed that at least 6.5 million residents have been registered so far under the State Residents Registration Agency, LASRAA out of the over 22 million estimated population of the state.
The governor, added that his administration targeted to hit 10 million target by December, 2022.
Sanwo-Olu, explained that the initiative aimed at building a reliable data base for development in alignment with global best practices.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, at the re-launch of the Lagos State Residents’ Identify Card, tagged: LAG ID Cards, held in Ikeja.
5. Muslim-Muslim ticket: Tinubu’ll find no better companion than Shetima – Gov Fayemi
Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has insisted that the All Progressive Congress, APC, Presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu would find no better running mate than Senator Kashim Shema.
Speaking during the unveiling of the APC’s vice Presidential candidate, in Abuja, governor Fayemi while commending Shetima on his selfless effort for a better Nigeria since 2013 said: “For those who followed closely the trajectory of our party would remember the Lagos declaration or the marina declaration of february 5, 2013.
If you remember that declaration, you will remember that that was where the 11 governors of the emerging parties that came together to form APC met. That was where we finalised to commit ourselves to a merger as governors of ANPP, CPC, ACN as well as APGA at that time.
The person who read that communique of the Marina declaration was no other person than Senator Kashim Shetima. And he gave his commitment to rescue our country from the injurious situation that we were in at that time. I want to associate myself with everything Bagudu has said about Governor Kashim Shetima.
6. 2023: Ortom, Peter Obi meet behind closed doors
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi Wednesday met behind closed doors in the Governor’s private residence in Abuja.
The meeting came less than 24 hours after the Governor returned from his two weeks working leave and trip to the United Kingdom and United States of America.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nathaniel Ikyur, made available to newsmen in Makurdi, at the end of the meeting the two leaders jointly addressed the media.
Governor Ortom challenged presidential candidates of the various political parties in the coming general elections to put Nigeria above personal interests.

7. ASUU strike: NANS mobilises students to join NLC protest
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said it will partake in the nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the prolonged strike by university workers scheduled for next week.
The association noted that it has commenced mobilisation of students across the country.
A statement by its President, Com. Sunday Asefon, directed all the subdivisions of the association to begin mobilisation to join the NLC in the protest.
“I am pleased to inform all Nigerian students and her structures, SUG, JCC, ZONAL and National Executive Council to commence immediate mobilisation to partake in the rescue mission of NLC,” he wrote.
8. Anxiety as revenue touts beat female customer to coma in Onitsha market
Illegal revenue collectors suspected to be working for the caretaker committee of Ogbaru Main Market, Onitsha, Anambra State on Wednesday beat a female customer to coma for allegedly refusing to pay certain dues demanded from her.
The victim, simply identified as Mama Ifeoma, from Mbaitolu in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, was reportedly attacked for refusing to pay twice an amount demanded by the revenue collectors.
An eye witness said the victim, a widow, who was in the market to make purchases and was going when she was accosted by the thugs who insisted she must pay a certain levy for the goods she purchased.
She said efforts to explain she had earlier paid her levy to another group proved abortive as they descended on her mercilessly.
She said: “Problem started when she told the revenue collectors that she had already paid and will not pay another money. They beat her until she fell down and they confiscated her goods.

9. Lagos govt seals shopping malls under construction, warns developers
The Lagos State Government has sealed two shopping malls being constructed at the popular Alade Market in Ikeja and on the Lekki Epe expressway.
The government through the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) also warned recalcitrant developers.
Abimbola Emdin-Umeh, Director, Public Affairs said the General Manager, Kehinde Osinaike led the Enforcement Team to the locations.
In a statement, Emdin-Umeh announced that the enforcement exercise was extended beyond Ikeja to Lekki, Ogudu and Agboyi-Ketu areas.
The spokesperson said the erring developers and property owners flouted the notices earlier served on them.
10. Angry residents burn two suspected motorcycle snatchers in Ibadan
No fewer than two suspected motorcycle snatchers have been burnt to death in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
DAILY POST gathered that the suspects were burnt after they allegedly snatched a motorcycle from a motorcyclist.
The suspects, who were later apprehended by angry residents, were later set on fire by the residents.
They were apprehended while trying to escape, DAILY POST gathered.
The incident occurred at General Gas under bridge in Ibadan Wednesday evening.
It was gathered that the suspects were caught after they made attempts to run and shot at their chasers.
