EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Ministry of Education has kicked off a stakeholders’ town hall meeting across the six education districts to take stock of views, opinions and gaps in the State Government’s investment aimed at delivering qualitative education in public schools.

Day One of the town hall meeting held at Girls Senior High School, Agege and Ikeja Grammar School, Bolade brought together stakeholders, including Community Leaders and parents of school children of Education District I (covering Agege, Alimosho and Ifako-Ijaiye) and VI (covering Ikeja, Oshodi, Isolo, Mushin) respectively.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, told stakeholders at the event stated that the meeting was convened to share information about the intervention of the government so far in the education sector, appraising the ongoing reforms and seeking new collaborative ways toward continuous improvement of quality education in all schools.

Mrs. Adefisayo added that the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has instituted various initiatives to ensure that children excel academically and become socially relevant in the future by equipping them with the right skills to be competitive in various sectors, locally and internationally.

“The magnitude of the challenges we face in the education sector is huge, but the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been faithful in implementing reforms with commitment and determination to tackle these challenges”, she said.

The Commissioner highlighted some of the major interventions by the State Government including the commissioning of various school projects across all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs, in addition to the new school structure at Vetland Junior Secondary School.

Adefisayo also explained that the Governor rewarded 13 outstanding Lagos State teachers/school administrators for the second time with car gifts at the second edition of the Teachers’ Merit Award as a way of motivating and encouraging them to strive for excellence, quality and effective education delivery.

In her words: “Other programmes include the newly introduced Comprehensive School Programme, meant to create equal opportunities for students and assist in producing self-reliant, skilled and empowered students before exiting secondary school, among others”.

She informed the gathering of the significant improvement of students’ performances in WASSCE/GCE, which rose from 38.79% in Y2020 to over 81% in Y2021 with a minimum of five credits including Mathematics and English.
