1. FG won’t interfere with Ekweremadu’s legal battles—Malami

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on Thursday, said that the Federal Government would not interfere with any local or international legal battle involving a former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who is currently facing trial for alleged organ harvest in the United Kingdom.

Malami disclosed this to journalists on Thursday at the 46th Session of the State House Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

The PUNCH reports that Ike was charged by the UK Metropolitan Police with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting.

Ike, 60, and his wife, Beatrice, 55, allegedly brought the 21-year-old man from Nigeria to the UK.

2. Edo award-winning teacher gets house

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is set to redeem the pledge of a house to a biology teacher at Asoro Grammar School (Senior), Mrs. Benedicta Idele, who emerged first runner-up in the 2021 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.

The state government revealed on Thursday that Idele would get keys to a housing unit in Emotan Gardens, the government’s housing project developed by the Edo State Development and Property Agency, in Sakponba area of Edo State.

The biology teacher won the 2021 Best Science Teacher Prize; 2021 Best Public School Teacher; 2021 Overall Best Teacher in Edo State Prize and Mobile Telephone Network’s M-Pulse Educator for 2021.

The EDPA is set to handover completed units of the estate to subscribers at the estate site in Upper Sakponba, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

3. Ebonyi to train youths, others in entrepreneurial skills

The Ebonyi State Government, Thursday, said it had concluded plans to train over 300 youths in entrepreneurial skills and self-reliance.

It also said it was poised to train the newly elected chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas and the 171 ward councillors of the state in leadership programmes.

While the duration for the training of youths will be for a period of one month, that of the newly elected council bosses and ward councillors will last for three weeks, according to the State Government.

The Commissioner for Information in the state, Uchenna Orji, stated this while briefing journalists after the Executive Council meeting on Thursday, in Abakaliki

4. 2023 polls: Imams, Pastors pray for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu’s success

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a group under the umbrella of Rotimi Agunsoye, ROT, has organized a prayer session for the electoral success of All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential candidate. Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The event witnessed both Christian and Muslim clerics leading the large gathering, about thousands, in various prayer sessions, held at 25, Ogunlana Street, Ketu (baba Akile House) Ikosi-Isheri, Local Council Development Area, Lagos.

Jimmy Akinboro, the group’s Coordinator, presided over the joint Islam and Christian special prayers.

The group is made up of Rotimi Agunsoye supporters (APC-Kosofe, Lagos Federal Constituency).

5. 2023: We’ve structure, we’re ready to save Nigeria, Peter Obi boasts

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has expressed confidence in the party’s structure, saying they are ready to save Nigeria.

Obi made this assertion in a statement via his verified Twitter handle on Thursday.

His words, “Finally, Our structure is everyone seated in this hall today! Yes, we have structure, and we are ready to move mountains to save Nigeria. – PO.”

This statement comes on the  heels of a leadership summit organized by the Labour Party and a coalition for Peter Obi Leadership at the International Conference Center in Abuja.

6. We’re winning, can’t be distracted – Kanu’s lawyer tells IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu’s lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor has urged the followers of the separatist agitator not to be distracted but focused until he regains his freedom.

Ejiofor also said that they are winning the battle through legal processes, adding that Kanu is resolute and strong in his convictions.

The lawyer revealed these in a statement he issued on Thursday following his routine visit to Kanu at the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.

According to Ejiofor, the IPOB helmsman is encouraged as his supporters remain calm, but wants them not to derail.

7. FG inaugurates seven-man board of Nigerian Shippers Council

The Minister of Transportation Muazu Sambo has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC).

The seven-man board was charged to foster a robust, transparent, accountable economy in line with international best practices.

The chairman of the board is Lawal Sama’ila Abdullahi, while its members are Rufai Ahmed Akambi, Usen Ekong Udoh, Otunba Oluseyi Oduntan, Violet Olaitan Williams, Mohammed Allamin Kam-Salem, and the Executive Secretary is Hon. Emmanuel Lyambee Jime.

8. My reference to Pope a mark of reverence not ridicule – Lalong

Plateau Governor Simon Bako Lalong has said his reference to Catholic Pope Francis on his appointment as Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Council was out of reverence and not disregard for the Holy Father, Catholic or Christianity.

Lalong on Wednesday told State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa that as a Catholic and Papal Knight, the Pope cannot tell him it is wrong to accept the appointment.

The Governor said it was unfortunate that part of the interview has been excised and used by politicians for propaganda and misinformation about his personality, faith and political persuasion.

9. Why Peter Obi deserves to lead Nigeria – Baba-Ahmed

Labour Party (LP) vice presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, insists Peter Obi deserves to lead Nigeria because he knows how to create wealth.

The former lawmaker and LP presidential flagbearer addressed thousands of supporters on Thursday at a summit at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

The gathering comprised the members of more than 80 groups working for the 2023 bid of the former Anambra governor.

Baba-Ahmed said Obi’s achievements while in office for eight years should give citizens hope that with LP in power, Nigeria will be saved.

10. Mastermind of February cell break in Rivers re-arrested

Operatives of Rivers State Command have re-arrested one Robinson Michael, who is alleged to have masterminded the cell break in Okirika Police Division in February, 2022.

The cell break led to the escape of Micheal and many others, 3 of which were high profile criminals.

Michael, who allegedly defiled an underaged girl escaped from the custody of Okirika Police Division 24 hours to the day he was to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

DAILY POST gathered that the suspect has now been transferred to State CID for proper investigation and possibly prosecution.
