1. Court order: ASUU files 14 grounds of appeal
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has filed an appeal challenging the ruling of Justice Polycarp Hamman of the National Industrial Court Abuja which ordered the lecturers to call off their seven-month-old strike and return to the classrooms.
The Counsel to ASUU, Femi Falana, SAN based their appeal on 14 grounds.
The appeal which Falana made available to The PUNCH was also accompanied by a request for stay of execution on the ruling by Justice polycarp Hamman.
The PUNCH reports that the NIC had in a judgement that was delivered last Wednesday by Justice Polycarp Hamman, ordered the striking varsity lecturers to return to the classroom, pending the determination of a suit the Federal Government filed to query the legality of their strike action.
2. Healthcare: Address brain drain, FMC chair tells FG
The Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Tosan Ideh, has urged the Federal Government to address the recent surge of brain drain in the health sector, which has affected health service delivery.
This was as he lamented that scores of health practitioners were leaving the country for other countries.
The chairman made this known when the management team of the FMC, Jabi, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, in Abuja, on Friday.
He said, “The surge of brain drain in the health sector has affected health service delivery as scores of health practitioners are leaving the country to other countries.”
He also appealed to the SGF to assist the health sector in removing some bottlenecks in the recruitment processes, to enable the sector to recruit more personnel for improved health service delivery for all Nigerians.
3. Ondo police deny ISWAP attack on personnel, vehicle
Ondo State Police Command on Friday denied a social media report that the terrorist group, the Islamic State West Africa Province attacked, its vehicle and personnel in the state.
Media reports stated that the terrorists group attacked the patrol vehicle of the police at Ipele area of Owo Local Government Area of the state, and vandalised the vehicle.
Another report said the terrorists attacked the police vehicle at Ibule community in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.

4. FG to ASUU: Obey court ruling first
The Federal Goverment has advised the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to obey the National Industrial Court ruling and call off its ongoing nationwide strike, while negotiations is ongoing.
The Minister of Labour of Employmenr, Senator Chris Ngige gave the advise while fielding questions from journalists at the Federal Government of Nigeria, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and European Union: HighLevel Side Event on the margins of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, and the Official Launch of the Nigeria Integrated National Financing Framework Report (NIFF).
Recall that the NIC had on Wednesday ordered ASUU to call off its ongoing nationwide strike, pending the determination of a suit filed by the Federal Government.
In a bid to end the strike amid the outcry sparked by the strike which has been ongoing for over seven months, the government had taken the union to court.
5. Subverting PDP’s constitution can derail it from winning – Jang
A former Governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah Jang has warned that if the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, subverts its constitution and fails to uphold its long-held tradition of inclusiveness, such is a sure way to derail the party from getting back to its winning ways in 2023.
Jang also cautioned aspirants in Plateau State who contested and lost in the last Party primary election conducted in the State to let go of bitterness and stop blaming him for their losses.
Senator Jang spoke on the heels of Thursday’s publication on some media platforms which rebuked him for his support for the resignation of the Party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
6. PDP Crisis: Calls for Ayu’s removal ill-timed — Aniagwu
Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu, says the call for the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, is ill-timed, with the 2023 general election a few months away.
Speaking on “Good Morning Nigeria” on NTA Network, on Friday, Aniagwu said those calling for Ayu’s removal based on equity and justice were not wrong but appealed that they look at the bigger picture because the period was too close to the 2023 general elections.
The Presidential Campaign Spokesman said Ayu never denied agreeing to quit if a presidential candidate emerged from the North, noting that Ayu will quit if the party wins the presidential election. The national chairman was clear when he said if the Party ask him to quit he will. The party did not make that request, the NEC passed a vote of confidence on the NWC.
According to him, Ayu has never denied what he said, be let us look at what he said and the laws of the party. Let us always think of the country first and not about North and South that tends to divide us.

7. LASTMA has no power to impose fines, Court rules
An Ikeja High Court has ruled that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority(LASTMA) lacks the powers to impose fines and tow vehicles of motorists suspected to have committed traffic offences.
Justice Olalekan Oresanya, in a suit instituted by a motorist, Mr. Lawal Aliyu against LASTMA, Lagos State Government, and the Attorney General, held that it was unconstitutional for LASTMA to impose fines and tow vehicles of alleged traffic offenders without a valid court order.
Aliyu filed the matter to contest the N20,000 fine imposed on him by LASTMA for an alleged traffic offence and another N10,000 towage fine which he was forced to pay by the traffic enforcement agency.
Justice Oresanya narrowed down the issues in the matter to three and resolved all in favour of the applicant (Aliyu), relying on Sections 34, 36 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), among others.

Nacional striker, Luis Suarez, has said Uruguay can win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Le Celeste last reached the top four of the tournament at the 2010 edition in South Africa.

Manchester United have reacted to the Football Association’s decision to charge Cristiano Ronaldo with “improper and/or violent” conduct.
Ronaldo appeared to knock a phone out of a fan’s hand after their 1-0 defeat at Everton last April.
Footage showed the 37-year-old appearing to smash the phone as he left the pitch and headed towards the tunnel.
United have now said they will support Ronaldo in response to the charge.
