1. FG charges event industry professionals on creativity
The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Erewa, has urged professionals in the event industry to shift from the norm and think creatively, adding that this would encourage the commission to support the industry.
She made the call on Tuesday, in Lagos, at the 5th edition of The Event Industry Conference organised by the Association of Professional Party Organisers and Event Managers of Nigeria.
Dabiri, who was represented by Shalewa Ajila, said the surface of the sector was yet to be scratched, as the potential and innovation opportunities that lie within are endless.
She said, “Nigeria being the ‘owanbe’ capital of the world, this dynamic subsector within the hospitality value chain continues to grow. Despite the dramatic effect of the pandemic on the entertainment and events industry, the industry has been able to pick up and thrive again.
2. Loans: Banks should set up gender desks – FG
The Federal Government on Wednesday called on banks to set up gender desks with a view to going the extra mile in identifying and prioritising targets of potential women borrowers.
The government said that the platform would ascertain and provide financial empowerment African Development Bank to support women-led Farmers’ Based Associations and MSMEs to promote agriculture in certain African countries.
While describing women as drivers of the African economy, the government said that more women needed to be encouraged to go into technically oriented fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Maryam Yalwaji Katagum, represented by the Director of Commodity and Export Department, Suleiman A. Audu, stated this at the second series of African Women Trade Conference 2022 organised by the Organisation of Women in International Trade (Nigeria), in collaboration with other OWIT African countries with the theme, “Positioning African women for the next big opportunity in the regional and global marketplace.”
3. Buhari, Lalong’s absence responsible for campaign delay – Oshiomhole
The Deputy Director-General of the presidential campaign council, All Progressive Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday night explained the reason for the delay in the commencement of the party’s campaign inauguration.
He attributed the rescheduling of the landmark event to the absence of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and the Director-General of the campaign council, Governor Simon Lalong, who were both in New York to attend the United Nations general assembly.
Oshiomhole made this known when he appeared on Channels TV Politics Today.
He said, “As far as I know, the campaign council has not been inaugurated because the chairman of the campaign council, President Muhammadu Buhari was not in the country.

4. Hamzat warns against discrimination on account of religion
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Abdulkadri Obafemi Hamzat has warned against discrimination of any person on account of religion in the state or any part of the country.
Also the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III urged Muslims to remain united irrespective of differences.
Both leaders gave the charge at the N10bn Endowment Fundraising for the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) on Sunday, raising concerns about the alarming rate of religious intolerance in Nigeria.
The fundraising meant to build a world-class national secretariat, as well as a resource and entrepreneurial centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, was attended by prominent personalities in government and private establishments.

Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s policy document remains the hope of recovery for the nation.
Okowa, Governor of Delta, stated this at the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council of PDP on Wednesday in Abuja.

6. Census: Time to address marginalisation — Gov Uzodimma
The Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has charged Ndi Imo and the entire Southeast region to take advantage of the 2023 Census to address marginalization.
Governor Hope Uzodimma made this charge at the Imo State Stakeholders Summit on Population and Housing Census Flag-Off Ceremony at the Eze Ndi Imo Palace, Mbari, Owerri.
The Governor stressed that the outcome of any census impacts everyone negatively or positively. He added that “If you don’t want to be cheated, the time to do it is now”.
He advised every Imo citizen irrespective of party affiliate, to be fully involved in the civic exercise as nonchalant attitudes will amount to being undercounted and shortchanged as a State and as a region.
Speaking earlier at the flag-off, the Speaker, Imo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Emeka Nduka disclosed that the opportunity for the Southeast to count its numerical strength is now. He added that anyone who impedes the smooth process of the census will be doing a disservice to the people of Imo State and the Southeast at large.

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the newly-appointed Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Buhari welcomed the appointment, which is combined with the position of Defence Minister, the first ever in the history of the Kingdom.
