1. Osun’ll deliver one million votes for Tinubu – Oyetola
The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has predicted that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 general elections, Bola Tinubu, would get over 1 million votes from Osun.
Oyetola spoke in his campaign office in Osogbo where he received APC youths that participated in a march tagged ‘Osun Youth March for Tinubu/Shettima 2023’ on Thursday.
The youths staged a walk across major streets in Osogbo, asking the electorate to support Tinubu’s bid to be president in the next general elections.
The Osun governor, who expressed surprise at the large turnout of youth, even when the campaign has not commenced, assured that the APC candidate would run a youth-friendly administration if elected.
2. Niger police arrest 326 suspects in 14 months
The Niger State Police Command has stated that it had arrested 326 suspects for various offences.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, during his retirement pull-out parade at the Police Training School in Minna, on Thursday.
Kuryas stated that 284 of the arrested suspects had been charged to court and successfully prosecuted while 42 suspects were under investigation and awaiting trial.
“The arrests and prosecution were made between August 10 2021, when I resumed as the Niger State commissioner of police to October 2022.” He said.
He also said that the suspects were arrested for offences ranging from culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, rape to unlawful possession of firearms.
3. Obaseki renames Observer Echo Newspaper, APC kicks
The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has chided the Godwin Obaseki-led government for renaming The Nigerian Observer Newspaper, The Echo, noting that the move was a destruction of one of the state’s legacies.
In a press statement on Thursday, the Assistant State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Ofure Osehobo, said the state government was not sincere when it closed down the paper in June, promising to reopen it in July.
The statement read in part, “The APC Edo State chapter believes that Obaseki was being economical with the truth, when in June 2022, he closed down the Nigerian Observer and promised to reopen it in a month after restructuring it. Edo people thought the move was part of a reform process.
“The party can recall that in a statement, the secretary to his government, Osarodion Ogie, said, ‘The Edo State Government, in line with the reforms of the state-owned media organisations, has directed the closure of the Nigerian Observer newspaper for a period of one month, for re-organisation and re-launch of the media outfit.’
“But contrary to these promises, the government demolished vital sections of the premises of the newspaper at 24, Airport Road, Benin City, installed a ‘N5-billion’ printing press, redeployed all the workers to the MDAs and created a newspaper called Echo to replace the Nigerian Observer,” he added.

4. Rivers floods: We can’t keep sharing palliatives, I’m sure of permanent solution — Abe
GOVERNORSHIP candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2033 elections in Rivers state, Sen Magnus Abe, yesterday chided successive administrations in the state for limiting interventions against perennial floodings to sharing of palliatives to victims.
At a thanksgiving at the St. Paul Cathedral, Port Harcourt, to dedicate his 2023 Governorship Campaigns, Abe assured of a permanent solution to destructive floods in Rivers while empathizing with teeming flood victims currently displaced in hardest hit Abua/Odual, Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs in the Orashi region of the state.
The SDP governorship hopeful said, “We must find permanent solution to flood in Rivers. Every human challenge has a permanent solution. We cannot keep sharing mattress and rice every year to flood victims.
“We cannot continue to do same thing every time and expect a different result. We will not play politics with everything. There are things that are beyond politics and so we commend the Rivers State Government for the prompt response to the (flood) issue.”
5. Court withholds judgement in suit opposing use of Sole Administrator to run NDDC
A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, on Thursday, reserved judgement in a suit challenging the continued use of a Sole Administrator to run the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Odighonin Adienbo, The Integrity Friends for Truth and Peace Initiatives and nine others filed the suit before Justice Dashen, opposing the use of sole administrator to run the NDDC.
The presiding Judge, Justice Isa Dashen, had on July 13 adjourned the case till October 13 for judgement, but when the court commenced sitting, officials of the court informed parties to the case that the judge said the judgement was not ready.
Also, no date was fixed for the judgement as the parties were told that a date would be communicated to them.
6. Pro-Obi lawyers petition NHRC, UN, others over alleged harassment of Obidients
A group under the aegis of Nigeria Lawyers Coalition for Peter Obi has petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Abuja over the alleged harassment of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate supporters during their October 1 rallies in some parts of the country.
The group also copied the International Human Rights Commission, the United Nations, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union among other global bodies in the petition dated 11 October, 2022.

7. LP makes U-turn, removes NLC, TUC Presidents from Obi’s campaign council
The Labour Party(LP) on Thursday said it would release a supplementary list to accommodate persons whose names were omitted from the Presidential Campaign Council.
The party said the list would be released before the inauguration of the campaign council for the Peter Obi and Yusuf Baba-Ahmed presidential bid.
National Chairman of the party, Barr Julius Abure, disclosed this during a briefing at the end of an expanded National Working Committee meeting of the party on Thursday in Abuja.
Abure, who read the communique of the meeting, announced the removal of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba and the President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo from the campaign council.
8. Osimhen grabs maiden UCL goal as Napoli thrash Ajax
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen opened his goal scoring account in the UEFA Champions League in Napoli’s 4-2 thrashing of Dutch champions Ajax in their Group clash at the Diego Maradona stadium yesterday evening.
The 23-year-old, returning to action after spending five weeks on the sidelines, was brought on in the 50th minute as a replacement for Giacomo Raspadori and scored the fourth goal for I Partenopei in the 89th minute.
Nigerian youngster Calvin Bassey was also on parade for the Eredivisie giants, featuring for the entire duration of the game.

9. NPC inspects materials ahead of 2023 census
The leadership of the National Population Commission (NPC), Thursday, visited the Nigeria factory of an indigenous technology firm, RLG Adulawo, in Ilesa, Osun state as part of effort to ensure that next year’s census is conducted, in compliance with the presidential directive on local content, especially in the area of technology.
The team toured the various sections of the RLG Adulawo Technology City, Ilesa factory, including the Assembly lines, testing centres and workshops sections, where ICT gadgets are produced.
The NPC team witnessed live assembly of Set Top Boxes (decoders) for one of the major cable TV providers for the country as well as the factory efforts in local assembly for Nigerian made electric meters.
Addressing journalists after the inspection, which had in attendance the Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Darlington Okereke, Dr. Clifford Zirra and Senator Mudashiru Husain, the Director General of the agency, Mr. Tellson Ojegun said the facility tour was to ensure that the agency contracts the best hands to do the job.
10. Insecurity: Police foil kidnap attempt, dislodge suspects, recover AK-47 in Plateau community
The Police in Plateau State said they have foiled plans by some suspected kidnappers who had laid ambush on a bypass road along Du community of Jos South LGA of the state, to kidnap innocent citizens.
The Police also said in the process of the aforementioned, one of the suspects was killed during a gun battle and the others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The State Police Command through its Spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo on Monday said, “The Plateau State Police Command is pleased to inform the general public that its efforts toward the fight against crime and criminality on the Plateau has continued to yield tremendous results.
“On 11th October, 2022, at about 20:10 hours while on routine patrol, Police Surveillance team alongside crack team attached to ‘B’ Division Bukuru, Jos South LGA of the Command, sighted some unknown gunmen who criminally barricaded the road leading to St Augustine College Du, Jos South LGA.
