1. I’m confident of winning 2023 Presidency, Tinubu declares

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate in the 2023 General Election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has expressed his confidence in winning the 2023 presidential election.

The former Lagos State governor, while speaking at the Kaduna Investment programme held at the Arewa Hall, Kaduna, the state capital, showered encomiums on Governor Nasir el-Rufai, saying Nigeria needed a thinker like the Kaduna State helmsman.

Tinubu said his government, apparently, after the tenure of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), had elapsed in 2023, would ensure that no inch of Nigeria’s territory would be ceded to bandits and armed robbers.

According to the APC national leader,  his government will prioritise the restoration of peace and security across the length and breadth of the country.

2. Minister inaugurates Ekiti airport as Fayemi leaves office

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, on Saturday, inaugurated Ekiti State Agro-Allied Passenger International Airport to the delight of Ekiti people who were excited about the landing of the first aeroplane in the state.

Coincidentally, the airport along Ijan-Ado road in the state capital marked the last project inaugurated for use by the administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi shortly before he was pulled out of office as governor at a modest occasion at the Government House.

The Ekiti State Governor-elect, Biodun Oyebanji, would be inaugurated as governor of the state on Sunday, October 16, 2022, for a term of four years following the expiration on Saturday, October 15 of the four-year tenure of Fayemi.

Sirika disclosed that the Federal Government would site a cargo facility at the airport, saying the Ekiti Airport was “an extremely very important project” which would facilitate the import and export of goods and commodities and drive the state economy.

3. Flood submerges 300 Bayelsa communities, displaces 700,000 people

The Bayelsa State government on Saturday declared that “no fewer than 300 communities and villages have either been totally or partially submerged by flooding in the state.”

It also announced that “about 700,000 persons have either been displaced or affected by the flood.”

The state government expressed the concern that the impact of this year’s flooding might result in a humanitarian crisis.

The Commissioner for Environment and chairman of the state Task Force on Flood Mitigation and Management, Iselema Gbaranbiri, stated these while giving an update on the committee’s activities.

He said that virtually all the communities and streets in Yenagoa Local Government Area have also been either submerged or partially flooded.

4. UI, Unilag ranked top Nigerian universities

The nation’s premier university – the University of Ibadan (UI) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) are ranked Nigeria’s best universities in the latest World University Rankings.

Both universities emerged the best according to the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking for 2023 published this week where they both shared the top spot with 401-500 ranking globally and first spot in Nigeria.

While the UI claimed 11th in the world’s 401-500th category, the University of Lagos clinched 24th place out of the 25 universities in the category.

5. Tinubu ‘ll replicate Lagos feats at federal level, says Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured citizens that the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu will replicate the achievements recorded in Lagos State in different sectors at the federal level when elected as Nigeria’s president in the 2023 general election.

Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu, also, urged public office holders and political class to be deliberate in engaging the youths to foster development, peace and unity in the country.

On the support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition, Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the formal commissioning of the Peace Park in Lagos on Saturday, said the initiative was to ensure peaceful existence among residents of the state, saying that nothing will be impossible in the country with peace and tranquility.

Sanwo-Olu, explained that the Peace Park built by Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency, LASPARK, would serve as a source of convergence, unity and tourist attraction to Lagos residents, especially youths in the state.

6. Air Peace ready to operate direct flights to Israel — CEO

The Chief Executive Officer, Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema, has expressed the company’s readiness to operate direct flights to Israel.

Mr Stanley Olisa, the Media Executive, Air Peace said in a statement in Lagos on Saturday.that Onyema said this during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission(NCPC), boss in Abuja.

Olisa said that the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Rev Yakubu Pam, also hinted that by the end of November, direct flights from Nigeria to Israel would be launched.

7. Why NNPC should be unbundled, disbanded- Sanusi

The 14th Emir of Kano and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, has called for unbundling and disbandment of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to get the nation out of economic crisis.

He spoke barely 48 hours after Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai made similar call.

Sanusi while delivering his paper: ‘Improving sub-nationals resilience against global economic stock’ at the 7th edition of Kaduna Economic and Investment Summit (KADInvest 7.0), said the NNPC should be unbundled into different companies for effective and efficient management of the oil sector.

“NNPC is a money pit instead of a cash cow; it should be unbundled and disbanded. More can be had from simply levying royalties and CIT on private players following models like that of Petronas and Petrobras,” he said.

8. Kane marks 400th Tottenham appearance with opening goal

Harry Kane marked his 400th Tottenham appearance with the opening goal as Antonio Conte’s side closed the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal with victory over Everton.

Kane broke the Toffees’ resistance from the penalty spot after being tripped in the area by England team-mate Jordan Pickford, who had failed to hold on to Matt Doherty’s long-range effort.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg added a second late on with a curling strike that took a slight deflection off Alex Iwobi on its way in.

9. Kwara NUJ wades into Gov’s spokesman, two journalists’ feud over alleged defamation

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, has waded into the feud between the spokesman of Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, Rafiu Ajakaye, and two journalists in the state.

The council, in a statement on Saturday in Ilorin, by the Chairman and Secretary, Ahmed Abdullateef and Deacon Tayo Ayanda, that it was doing all it could to prevail on Ajakaye to withdraw the petition against two of its members, Dare and Abdulrasheed Akogun who were invited, interrogated, arraigned and subsequently detained at the Mandala Correctional Centre, Ilorin, over an allegation of defamation against his principal and his person in their posts on a popular WhatsApp platform.

Though the issue that triggered the petition to the police and subsequent prosecution in court was described as painful and most unfortunate, the State Council of NUJ has not rested on its oars in exploring an amicable settlement with the ultimate hope that the matter would be permanently laid to rest in no time.

10. EPL: Man Utd react as Greenwood charged with attempted rape, assault

Manchester United have released a statement on Saturday after Mason Greenwood was charged with attempted rape and assault.

The 21-year-old has also been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

Greenwood is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Monday.

“Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service.

“He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process,” the statement read.
