1. EFCC impersonator nabbed in Lagos
A 29-year-old man, Ume Clinton, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for impersonating as an EFCC official and defrauding a Belgian lady of the sum of (€45,000), over N19m.
The EFCC said this in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Thursday.
According to the statement, Clinton was arrested on October 18, 2022, at No 46 Atoke Gbadebo Street, Isheri, Lagos, by men of the EFCC, following a news story published by an online platform: Foundation for Investigative Journalism, narrating how Clinton defrauded Axelle Mahieu, an educator working as a caregiver in Brussels, Belgium.
The victim was surfing through her Facebook page in November 2021, when she saw that someone had sent her a message. The message was from Ume Clinton, who introduced himself as “a friend of a friend.”
2. CBN, AMCON sell Polaris Bank to SCIL
The Central Bank of Nigeria and the Asset Management Company of Nigeria have formally announced the completion of a Share Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of 100 per cent of the equity in Polaris Bank by Strategic Capital Investment Limited.
The House of Representatives on Wednesday okayed the sale of Polaris Bank, noting that the acquisition followed laid down procedure and the relevant presidential approval.
A statement issued by the Director, Corporate Communications Department at the Central Bank of Nigeria, OsitaNwanisobi, on behalf of the CBN and AMCON disclosed that SCIL had paid an upfront consideration of N50bn to acquire 100 per cent of the equity of Polaris Bank, and had also accepted the terms of the agreement which include the full repayment of the sum of N1.31tn, being the consideration bonds injected.
According to the statement, “The CBN thus received an immediate return for the value it has created in Polaris Bank during the stabilisation period, as well as ensuring that all funds originally provided to support the intervention are recovered.
3. Nigeria Air: Stakeholders tackle FG over Ethiopian deal
The Airline Operators of Nigeria has criticised the deal between the Federal Government and Ethiopian Airlines to float the country’s air carrier, Nigeria Air, alleging that local operators have been ignored in the process.
Speaking for the AON at the second investigative hearing by the House of Representatives in Abuja on Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer of TopBrass Airline, Rolland Iyayi, said the Ethiopian Airline was poised to benefit most in the Nigeria Air project.
This was as the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, expressed concern over the project.
He said, “The issue of the national carrier is very important. It is something we are all paying attention to. We just want to make sure we get it right. There have been some misgivings. Some issues have been raised. But there are issues that need clarification.”

4. Jandor woos Awori chiefs, non-indigenes in Alimosho
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos state, Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has wooed traditional chiefs, called Baales, and igbo-community in Alimosho Local Goverment Area of Lagos State for support ahead of the 2023 poll.
Also, the Deputy Governorship Candidate and popular Nollywood Actress, Olufunke Akindele, on Thursday took campaigns to some notable markets in Alimosho, assuring traders of party’s readiness to amend all unpopular policies of the present administration in the state.
The Baales and Igbo community in the area, expressed their support during the ongoing tour by Jandor campaign team across wards of the council, held Liasu Road in Idimu-Egbe Local Council Development Area, LCDA, as part of campaign activities towards the guber poll on 2023.
Jandor, who had flagged off a three day campaign tour on Wednesday, at the event, made a pledge to Abesan Estate Residents Association’s with assurance to erect late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, ex -Lagos State Governor’s statue in the estate, ahead of its 40 years anniversary.
5. Why national grid collapses – GenCos
Electricity Generation Companies (GenCos), Thursday, attributed the incessant collapse of national power grip due to excessive volatile load by steel mills, weak and old infrastructure by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the unavailability of most transmission lines.
The executive secretary of association of power generation companies, Barr. Joy Ogaji, Thursday marshaled out the reasons at an investigative hearing of the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee set to check the recurring national grid collapse in the country.
She said: “The grid collapse is reducing because Gencos machines are now being used to manage the grid contrary to the grid code provision and you will see that 97% of the time, the grid is on a very high frequency; 51 point something hertz and I have the evidence for anybody that wants to see, I have been tracking it since 2015.
“Why a grid collapse, one of the reasons we have found is, is there is excessive volatile load mostly through steel mills. The Nigerian network has over 50 steel mills connected to the grid with heavy load from 3 to 35 megawatts going from minimum to maximum; minimum in a continuous circuit of 6 -10 minutes.
6. Why Nigeria is pushing for market integration in ECOWAS – SEC DG
The Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission Mr. Lamido Yuguda has pointed at the need to create an enabling environment for cross-border securities transactions as the reason Nigeria is pushing for West African capital markets integration programme.
SEC in a statement in Abuja yesterday Mr. Yuguda who spoke during a meeting with the Director General of SEC Ghana, Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh in Accra explained that the integration of all capital markets jurisdictions in the ECOWAS region would the enormous potentials of cross border listings.
He noted that with this, capital markets in the region are expected to develop a tool of cooperation that enables them to effectively police their respective markets and ensure that the standards of regulation set out by IOSCO are sustained, and where possible, improved upon.
“Without the readiness of all concerned, the lofty aims of the programme may as well continually remain a dream. It goes to say, unequivocally, that this goal can only be achieved seamlessly when all member states of ECOWAS come on board and actively commit to achieving the noble objectives of the enhanced collaborative structure that these kinds of agreements enable.

7. Teenager reportedly jumps into Osun river after mysterious phone call
A yet-to-be-identified female teenager on Thursday reportedly jumped into the Osun river at Gbodofon area via Aregbe area of Osogbo capital of Osun.
The Nation gathered the incident, which occurred around 4:30pm, caused gridlock around the bridge as motorists and passersby milled around the area.
It was learnt that the teenager alighted from a motorcycle from Ogo-Oluwa area after receiving an inaudible phone call and jumped into the river.
An eyewitness, Olaide Mosunmola, told The Nation: “The lady who jumped into the river is a teenager. She alighted from a motorcycle after receiving a call. She put the phone inside her purse, then jumped into the river.
8. Strikes won’t be tolerated during transition-Ngige
The Federal Government has warned it would no longer tolerate stikes that do not follow due process by any union during the transition period of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige has stated.
Ngige issued the warning, shortly after receiving an “Award of Excellence,” conferred on him by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) at the 42nd Annual General Meeting/Scientific Conference of the association.
He was presented with the award by the immediate past executive of NARD, which led the new executive on a courtesy/thank you visit to his office in Abuja.
During the visit, the new leadership also raised some concerns of the doctors, chief of which is the review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale (CONMESS) wage structure.

9. Union workers will face sanctions for shutting down national grid – Minister
The Minister of State for Power, Godwin Jeddy-Agba has disclosed that the committee that investigated the shutdown of the national grid will submit a report by next week.
The Minister, while appearing before the House of Representatives Committee investigating frequent shutdown of the national electricity grid, said the union members may face sanctions if indicted by the committee.
It would be recalled that workers under National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, and Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC had shut down the national grid over an industrial dispute.
“The Ministry of Labour has been briefed effectively. By next week, we shall come up with the decision of that committee vis a vis holding who is responsible on that day for that very action,” the Minister stated while responding to a question by a member of the Power Committee, Sada Soli.
Soli had asked if there would be consequences for shutting down the national grid.
10. EndSARS: Police in Lagos relax security at Lekki toll gate
The Lagos State Police Command has relaxed the presence of its men at the Lekki toll gate on the day Nigerians commemorated the End SARS anniversary.
Police personnel took over the location as of the night of Wednesday October 19. By Thursday morning, the number increased.
But by 9pm, DAILY POST correspondent observed that most of the operatives seen during the day were no longer present.
Only two/three vehicles were seen on each side of the road, as against at least 15 during the day.
Residents are moving freely and the nightlife as bubbly as usual.
In the morning, the police fired tear gas at demonstrators at the toll gate. Calm was restored after both parties controlled temper.
