1. PDP will win Anambra in 2023, says Okowa
The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that the PDP will win in Anambra State in the 2023 election.
Okowa insisted that the PDP will take Anambra, despite the dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the state and the Labour Party, whose candidate, Mr. Peter Obi is also from the state.
The PDP running mate to Atiku Abubakar, stated this in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Sunday, during the 20th Ofala Festival of the traditional ruler of the ancient kingdom, Obi Alfred Achebe.
Okowa was represented by the leader of the presidential campaign council in Anambra State, Obiora Okonkwo, who is also the chairman of United Nigeria Airline.
2. Defend your votes, yourselves, CAN youths tell Nigerians
A coalition of Christian youths under the aegis of Christian Association of Nigeria Youth Wing, on Sunday, called on Nigerians to avoid being used as political thugs in the 2023 general election but to defend their votes and make sure it reflects the wishes of the people.
While warning against electoral violence, the organisation told the masses to defend themselves against killers in whatever guise.
The national chairman of YOWICAN, Belusochukwu Enwere, who gave the advice in a statement in Abuja, said the organisation, as a major stakeholder in the electoral process, would commence a global peace campaign against electoral violence in all parts of the country.
He said Nigerians must take the bull by the horns to embrace peace at all cost and at all levels.
3. Jonathan, Ooni to attend 14th Olowu coronation
Former President Goodluck Jonathan; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and Chairman Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote among others have been listed among personalities expected to honour the installation and coronation of the 14th Olowu of Owu, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola.
The chairman of the Central Planning Committee, General Ekundayo Opaleye (rtd), disclosed this on Sunday during a press briefing at the Olowu Palace, Ago-Owu, Abeokuta.
Opaleye revealed that the coronation and installation of the new king would run for seven days, spanning from Monday, October 24th to Saturday, October 30th, with a series of activities to mark the day.

4. Okada ban: Union to issue digital identification to members
The Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Association of Nigeria (ROMAN) in the FCT, says plans are ongoing to issue digital identification to its members.
According to the association, this will go a long way to check criminality among them.
The National President of the Union, Alhaji Olusola Razaq, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said this during a sensitisation meeting organised for or members at Karu, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to Razaq, the move by the union is to avoid outright ban by the Federal and States governments owing to unregulated activities of commercial motorcyclists in the city centre.
5. Stop playing double sides, tell Ayu to resign, if you are sincere, CUPP tells Anyanwu
THE Opposition, Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called on the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu to prove that he is really a honest personally by resigning from his position as National Secretary.
According to CUPP, if Anyanwu would tell Nigerians that he can be trusted, as the stribe of the PDP, he should stop playing double sides and be bold enough to tell the embattled National Chairman of PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu to resign his position as a way of saving the party.
In a statement yesterday by CUPP Spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Ayu’s refusal to resign his position as being canvassed in some quarters and by some notable members of the party would end up de marketing the party in the South South ahead of next year’s Presidential and General elections.
The call by PDP House of Representatives Candidate for Ideato North/South federal constituency, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere was sequel to Anyanwu’s statement in a recent interview that Governor Nyesom Wike of River State, is not fighting the party’s Presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, but rather seeking for equity and justice.
6. Ex-convict on the run after raping 12-yr-old girl to death in Ogun
An ex-convict, Anu Orija is on the run after he reportedly raped a 12-year-old girl, Janet Fakeye to death at Fehintoluwa CDA in Idiya, Abeokuta North local government area of Ogun state
The deceased was a Junior Secondary School student at Army Day Secondary School, Alamala, Abeokuta.
It was gathered that the suspect, who was recently released from prison, was no where to be found after he committed the crime.

7. Telecoms contributes $70bn to economy – NCC
The Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) at the weekend said technology-driven telecommunications sector has contributed $70 billion to the economy.
Its Executive Vice Chairman, Prof Umar Danbatta, stated this while delivering a Keynote address at a Cyberchain Conference in Abuja.
Danbatta spoke on the topic:”Using technology to grow Nigeria’s GDP”.
Danbatta, who declared that the impact of technology to the nation and the society has been tremendous, said the telecoms sector remains a key driver of the national economy.
8. Traders count losses as more structures go down in Onitsha
Traders in Woliwo (Ọgbọ Oroma), Port Harcourt road, Onitsha and Nkwelle Ezunaka, Anambra State weekend counted their losses following demolition of structures and shanties in the area by enforcement team of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB).
The structures were reportedly taken over by a fraudulent developer who converted them into market amidst risks occasioned by high tension cables along the area.
The victims who spoke to The Nation claimed to have paid for the space to the landowner over 15 years ago.
One of them Pastor Ukoha, accused government of lack of empathy for poor masses trading in the affected areas.

9. US alerts of terrorist attacks in Nigeria’s capital Abuja
The United States Embassy has alerted of an elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, specifically in Abuja, the capital.
The U.S. Mission issued a terse statement on Sunday.
It listed targets as government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, and bars.
Others are restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations.
10. Crowds at Atiku’s rallies sign of victory in 2023 – PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed optimism that huge crowds that received its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in both Edo and Niger States signals victory at the 2023 general elections.
NAN reports that the spokesman of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, made the assertion on Sunday in a statement he issued in Abuja.
According to Ologbondiyan, huge crowds received the former vice president in Benin; Bida, Niger; and Jibia, Katsina State; during campaign rallies.
He further stated that Atiku’s campaign was gaining more traction across the country due to his tenacity in addressing the nation’s issues and challenges.
