This media platform gathered that the Epe Division Professional Women Association (EPWA) rewarded the three prominent Epe indigenes with awards for their valuable contributions to the town.
The award presentation was part of the events that commemorated the Annual General Meeting (AGM), Fundraising, and Inauguration of the newly elected executives of the association.
The event, held at the prestigious Royal Waterfront Hotel, witnessed Raji winning the “Epe Icon of the Year” award.
Also, Otunba Abass went home with the “The Unifier of the Year” honour, while Mrs. Moore bagged the “EPWA Torchbearer Year 2002” award.
In his acceptance speech, Raji expressed his happiness that EPWA is projecting women of Epe origin to lofty heights.
He also hailed women’s sacrifices of their financial and material resources in effecting positive changes and touching lives in their society.
“I am happy to know that through this association, our women are being projected to the universe as personalities of lofty intellectual prowess,” he said.
“That they have a common goal to impact humanity rather than entrenching partying and frivolities positively is exceptionally significant.
“It is a pointer to the fact that while our mothers are proficient in the fish value chain, another version of the women folk through EPWA is blazing the trail in their various careers.”
Besides the awardees, several eminent personalities, including members of many other women’s associations—both from the formal and informal sectors—particularly members of Epe Central Sand and Granite Suppliers Association and Nigeria Union of Teachers, graced the event.
During the event, representatives of the Alara of the Ilara Kingdom, High Chief Charles Keshinro; the Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, High Chief Kadiri Odedeogboro, Hon. Mustain Abiodun Tobun, and Hon Bola Iberu, delivered goodwill messages.
The monarchs commended the women’s association for its charitable contributions to the societal growth of the female gender.
Earlier, Lagos State High Court Judge, Justice Yinka Adeyemi, swore in newly elected members of EPWA led by the President, Mrs. Balogun Margaret.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the legal luminary also inducted prominent daughters of the Epe Division, such as the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun.
Meanwhile, the fundraising session in support of the association’s humanitarian programmes received generous donations from Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Oba (Dr) Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo; the Oloja of Epe Land, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun; the Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, Oba (Dr) Shefiu Adewale; Lagos State House of Assembly Member, Epe Constituency I, Hon. Abiodun Tobun; Epe Local Government Chairman, Princess Surah Animashaun; Duke Olabode Garbadeen, former Commissioner of Lagos State Local Government Service Commission; Associate Professor Nosiru Onibon, Lagos State University of Education Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and a host of other dignitaries.
Thrilling cultural performances from students of Army Children High School, Epe, capped off EPWA’s AGM session.
Before the award ceremony, the association had donated medical supplements to the foremost Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Care Centre in Epe.
